Associate Director, Innovation R&D (Medical Device Systems)

Job Description Summary
Associate Director, Innovation R&D is responsible for using their broad technical expertise, leadership skills, and medical device development process knowledge to drive and support innovation and concept phase projects. In this role, you will work with internal and external teams to progress infusion system technology, establish intellectual property to protect infusion system technology, and establish the infusion system R&D technology roadmap based on a strong understanding of technology capability, customer desirability, and financial viability. You will pursue multiple innovation opportunities in parallel, including incremental, architectural, disruptive, and radical innovation.You are expected to translate voice of customer and stakeholder needs into early stage concepts to test and iterate with users, identify key prioritized concept related system/product requirements, establish concept system architecture, proactively identify technical risks and mitigation pathways, develop value driven intellectual property, identify use related risks, and work with cross-functional engineers to progress the technology for medical device infusion systems (systems with mechanical parts, electronics, software, and/or algorithms). The expectation for the Associate Director, Innovation R&D is that they represent the R&D function in internal and external communication related to technology discovery, innovation, and concept development, act as a leader of technology exploration and solutions, and strive for continuous improvement within the R&D innovation and concept group. The Associate Director, Innovation R&D is expected to obtain a complete understanding of infusion user and customer needs, identify technology solutions, develop the technical system architecture for innovation concepts, develop prioritized system requirements for innovation concepts, and ensure planned innovation and concept phase project milestones are met.
