Overview
To register patients of the Memorial Health Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation Program. Performs financial collections for patients, verifies insurance and completes LMRP analysis (obtaining, requesting or analyzing further physician documentation as appropriate). Collects accurate patient demographic and billing information in a timely manner. Interviews new patients, enters information into all appropriate software packages. Provides secretarial support to the Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation department. Provides technical assistance to the Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation department. Provides clinical assistance to the Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation department.

Qualifications
Education:
High School Graduate.
Licensure/Certification/Registry:
CNA preferred.
Experience:
- 6 months-1year clerical/support experience required.
- Prefer medical terminology, medical office, registration or billing experience.
Other Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Minimum typing skill of 40 WPM.
- Demonstrates excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Demonstrates ability to work independently.
- Word processing/computer application experience and knowledge required.
- Prior public contact and/or customer service required.
- Completion of EKG course.
- Demonstrate accurate blood pressure measurement.
- Demonstrate competency in cholesterol and glucose screening.
Responsibilities
Responsible for completing all steps of pre-registration/registration including patient interview, obtaining of signatures, providing advance directive information and distributes hospital specific literature.
Registers all types of patients in multiple software systems.
Activates phase II and phase III cardiac and pulmonary patients monthly includes new face sheets, consents, patient information update and labels.
Demonstrates flexibility, organization and functions well in stressful situations.
Maintains a professional demeanor in respect to patients and fellow employees.
Ability to conduct financial collections, financial triage and referrals for financial counseling at all points of patient access including down payments on self-pay accounts, co-pays and deductibles.
Knowledge of state and federal regulations as well as hospital, department and JCAHO policies and procedures.
Maintains and helps to create computer files, including patient charges, logs and mailing lists.
Files reports and maintains a current filing system.
Orders and stocks supplies.
Enter all charges in appropriate software system for Phase I, II, and III cardiac and pulmonary rehab patients.
Completes correspondence as directed by the Supervisor/Manager to include greeting cards.
Compiles admission charts, inpatient and outpatient.
Schedule new evaluations for phase II rehab and completes reminder letters for all evaluations in appropriate software system.
Assists with the coordination of and attends community and special events including but not limited to assuring supplies adequate/appropriate for health fair, high screen log, community benefit forms, enter all in log for annual tracking.
Coordinates annual patient flu vaccine.
Assists in QI of glucometer and cholesterol machines.
Coordinates compilation of education books.
Communicates with ancillary department, physicians, medical offices and within Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation department.
Compiles monthly statistics and outcomes.
Consults other departments as appropriate to provide for an interdisciplinary approach to the patients’ needs.
Conducts insurance verification tasks, pre-certification or referral information from MD offices and/or insurance companies and authorization for elective and emergent patients.
Effectively perform general clerical/administrative functions.
Prepares and distributes monthly newsletter.
Assists in preparing payroll and schedule.
As needed, appropriately place telemetry electrodes and run a rhythm strip.
As needed, interpret life threatening changes in rhythm strip.
As needed, monitor blood pressure, glucose, and cholesterol.
Assist with patient ambulation.
