Summary of Responsibilities:

Prepare and analyze financial reporting from a management perspective for the Global Markets (GM) USA business unit and support CIB USA Management in the implementation of BBVA’s business model. BBVA works as a global institution, and therefore we recognize the need for standard working practices, information and management systems, accounting results criteria and communication between different banking departments. The main objective of the department is to support the Head of Management Reporting by implementing these practices and systems in the unit. Management Reporting plays a leading role in the daily activity of Global Markets.

Essential Job Duties:

  • MtM P&L report preparation across all products and trading strategies including rates, currencies, credit and derivatives.
  • Investigate and resolve large and inconsistent P&L variances between front office system, accounting system and trader´s book by reconciling all discrepancies down to an immaterial amount to ensure accurate P&L.
  • Responsible for providing trader/dealer support including: trade booking, product valuation and the management of risk positions.
  • Daily interaction across multi-disciplinary teams including: Traders, Market Risk team and accounting department to investigate and resolve different discrepancies.
  • Assist in controlling BBVA’s internal results recognition models, and for implementation of local and cross-border, cross-sell agreements (transfer pricing).
  • Assist in controlling accounting asymmetries, banking regulations and support local project implementations.
  • Assist in deliver strategic recommendations based on financial analysis and forecasts to the Head of Management Reporting
  • Analyze and understand all aspects of the financial markets and financial products valuation (positions, profitability, MtM)

Level of Complexity and Risk Involved:

As a Front Office support area, responsible for controlling P&L for the GM USA unit, the position requires thorough knowledge of capital markets products valuations (FX, rates, credit products, including derivatives), as he/she needs to understand how the product’s valuation affects the unit’s P&L. A dynamic knowledge of capital markets and its effects on P&L is required. This position is highly exposed to internal and external trading, accounting and management systems, as well as Microsoft and SQL software. In this way, the candidate has to be knowledgeable of systems. Important to note that this is a sensitive position as it handles P&L, portfolio’s risk and confidential data. It also requires active coordination with all geographies where BBVA has clients, and the coordination of cross-border bookings and governance.

Skills, knowledge, and abilities/Competencies:

  • Bachelors in Finance, Economics, Business or Accounting.
  • Two plus years of experience in the Financial industry (Banking preferred), with knowledge of financial markets, capital markets products valuation and financial analysis.
  • Moderate knowledge of Capital Markets products as Interest Rates Swaps, Cross Currency Swaps, Interest Rate Options, Fixed Income Securities, FX and Structured Products.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and SQL.
  • Moderate knowledge of Latin-American’s Markets and its financial products valuation, as GM USA has major investments in the LatAm Fixed Income and FX markets.
  • Knowledgeable of front office systems as Murex, Calypso or Spectrum (highly preferred), Bloomberg, Reuters.
  • Comfortable dealing with ambiguity.
  • Experience working in a global, multicultural and/or international environments.
  • Must be able to multi-task and demonstrate analytical/problem-solving skills
  • Must be a quick learner, self-motivated and a team player
  • Ability to learn new financial software or comfortable in dealing with systems.
