The SIMS Inmate Release Specialist Lead provides supervision and training to SIMS Inmate Release Specialist and Senior Inmate Release Specialists and ensures the efficient operation of the SIMS Division in the areas of judicial documents, court scheduling, Bonds and Fines, Inmate Release Unit, Quality Control, and Information. This position exercises considerable care and judgment in the release of information in accordance with state law, court decision or order, and/or Office Policy.

Position Qualifications

Education

  • High school diploma or GED; and

Experience

  • Three (3) years of legal, court or justice system support related experience.

OR

Combined education and experience qualifications

  • Other combinations of post-secondary education in Public Policy, Justice Administration, Legal, Criminal Justice or closely related field may substitute for up to two (2) years of the experience requirement on a year for year basis.

Other requirements

  • Must possess a valid Arizona driver's license or have the ability to obtain by the time of hire.
  • Training that may be provided on-the-job: FEMA NIMS – IS100 and 700; Safety; Payroll; PREA.
  • Prior to hiring, the Sheriff's Office requires that all candidates pass an extensive background review.

Our Preferred Candidate has

  • Associate's degree in Administration, Public Policy, Justice Administration, Legal Assistant or Criminal Justice.
  • Clerical or administrative experience in a criminal justice setting.

Essential Job Tasks

(This is not an all-inclusive list of all job duties that may be required; employees will be required to perform other related duties as assigned.)

  • Advises employees of new directives, policies, procedures, and goals.
  • Answers staff questions and provides subject matter expertise to the Division.
  • Supervises staff, oversees floor operations, assigns duty posts, and directs workflow; prepares schedules to maintain adequate shift coverage; and maintains records of daily work assignments.
  • Participate in hiring process and conducts interviews.
  • Mentors staff and coaches/counsels on job performance; and provides feedback to SIMS supervisors.
  • Trains new staff and conducts remedial training as needed, maintains training records; assists staff in problem research and resolution.
  • Interprets judicial documents, including computing sentences and interpreting court orders, and enters data into the MCSO database (SHIELD).
