POSITION OVERVIEW & RESPONSIBILITIES

The Senior Mechanical & Commissioning Engineer plays a key role in the successful execution of projects for our Medical & Clean Manufacturing Group as well as the Performance Group. Reporting to the Senior Project Manager of MCM with dotted line to Performance Group Manager, this individual will provide technical and engineering excellence, scoping and execution of commissioning, re/retro-commissioning, and energy audit projects including successful delivery of work to our customers. This individual will provide technical expertise, oversight, and technical management to ensure that the performance of buildings, systems and equipment conform to design specifications. The Senior Mechanical & Commissioning Engineer is responsible for a high level of customer satisfaction by ensuring expectations are clearly communicated and managed – both externally and internally. The successful candidate will also contribute to a dynamic team environment by being proactive, communicating clearly to all stakeholders, and modeling a highly collaborative working environment. This person will also actively support the business development process, through the writing of proposals and meeting with prospective and current customers. This Senior Mechanical & Commissioning Engineer will be self-directed but thrive in an environment where consultation leads to superior outcomes.

75% of specific core responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, the following for Senior Mechanical Engineering:

  • Prepares engineering documents and equipment specifications to meet contracted scope of work and to ensure application of Thermodynamic Principles (e.g., HVAC Engineering and Design, load/energy modeling calculations, etc.). 
  • Basic understanding of Architectural, Electrical, Civil and Structural Engineering construction practices. 
  • LEED – experience in the design and certification of LEED buildings. 
  • Develop estimates for assigned scope of work and is accountable for ensuring we stay within scope.
  • May serve as project manager for complete projects, when assigned. 
  • Support the business development process through input to proposals, meeting and presenting to prospective customers, etc.
  • Provides work direction to other team members, including subcontractors, as assigned. 
  • Approves final equipment selections and drawing submittals.
  • Provides technical and engineering support to other departments/disciplines.

 

25% of specific core responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, the following for Commissioning: 

 

Field Task Execution

  • Conducts building performance evaluations and audits, including commissioning, re-commissioning, and retro-commissioning activities.
  • Primarily executes Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) functional tests, including point verification and sequence tests. Will be expected to assist other KFI personnel in the creation of, or witnessing of, other systems tests such as electrical, lighting, or plumbing systems. 
  • Actively participates in construction meetings. Directs commissioning meetings, recording action items, and distributing these to all key stakeholders.
  • Performs construction inspections to ensure MEP installations conform to project doc
