Algorithm & Signal Processing Researcher
STRAbout the role
The Electronic Warfare and Novel Capabilities Group (EWNC) in the STR Sensors Division develops advanced signal processing algorithms, conducts experiments, and prototypes systems for next generation radar and electronic warfare systems. Our team consists of passionate and motivated engineers with advanced degrees in engineering, computer science, mathematics, and physics, who are seeking opportunities to use their deep technical knowledge and creativity to tackle some of the hardest problems that our national security focused customers face. We actively collaborate with research engineers across STR, as well as with academic researchers and industry partners to develop practical and powerful solutions to RF sensing and counter-sensing challenges.
The Role:
As Algorithm and Signal Processing Researcher, you will help develop and implement state of the art signal and information processing and machine learning techniques to address a variety of problems including signal detection, classification characterization, and autonomous sensor decision making for RF sensing, electronic support, protection, attack, and much more—all to help address national security and safety needs. You will work closely with other researchers to develop cutting edge systems and collaboratively with our software designers and engineers to transition your techniques into production systems to help the warfighter achieve mission success.
Our ideal candidate possesses working knowledge in one or more of the following areas:
RF and radar signal processing, optimization, electronic warfare, machine learning, adaptive signal processing, algorithm development, test & evaluation, modeling & simulation, or systems engineering.
We have a highly-collaborative, multi-disciplinary team, our perfect candidate also has a strong desire to learn about new, interesting problem domains. We prioritize collaboration and team culture in addition to being results-oriented, and therefore we always seek researchers and scientists with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
The Algorithm and Signal Processing Engineer the existing team leverage strengths while enabling technical and leadership.
What you will Do:
- Design and apply state-of-the-art signal processing and machine learning techniques to address RF and radar sensing and counter-sensing challenges
- Collaborate with diverse teams to develop and deploy cutting-edge capabilities into prototype systems
- Design and implement models and simulations of advanced RF systems
- Support business development and proposal writing efforts
Who You Are:
- U.S. citizen with active Security Clearance, eligible to support special access programs
- Proficiency in higher-level programming languages such as MATLAB and/or Python with 2+ years of experience
- Strong mathematical, troubleshooting, written, and verbal communication skills
Even Better:
- Experience with RF technologies in the defense sector, particularly for sensing and electronic warfare applications including electronic attack, electronic protection, cognitive EW, and cognitive ESM techniques and algorithms
- Experience with machine learning tasks such as natural language processing, image recognition, semantic segmentation, reinforcement learning, approaches such as Bayesian, deep convolutional and graph neural network methods, and tools such as PyTorch, Ray, TensorFlow/board, and MLflow
- Ability to apply novel, innovative and interdisciplinary approaches to challenging engineering problems
- Ability to survey literature to determine state-of-the-art, incorporate recent research and apply to current problem sets
- Understanding and experience in interacting with decision-makers and customers to translate mission needs into an end-to-end analytical solution
- Ability to create and present briefings to Customers and senior management to provide both high-level and deep technical solution explanations
Education:
- PhD, MS, or BS in Electrical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Physics, or related technical discipline
While this position is ideally suited for a junior to mid-level engineer, individuals with more experience are also encouraged to apply. We have opportunities for talented engineers at all experience levels.
