Job Description:

Location: We support US flexible working arrangements in the contiguous 48 states.

The opportunity: 

This position reports to the VP FP&A and is accountable for the Planning and Management Reporting processes related to total Sun Life U.S.

How you will contribute: 

  • Partner with the corporate FP&A group and Sun Life U.S. business units to deliver the U.S. monthly and quarterly management reporting.
  • Oversee the production of the U.S. financials for the annual Strategic Plan and Business Plan processes, coordinating and collaborating with business partners across the organization.
  • Provide actionable insights and recommendations based on data analysis to drive business decisions, improve overall performance, and contribute to the execution of our strategic priorities.
  • Collaborate with business partners to provide insights into drivers of financial results.
  • Manage the production of consolidated U.S. reports on financial results to internal stakeholders including key performance indicators and quarterly business reviews. Produce the quarter financial results memo for the board.
  • Coordinate the monthly and quarterly management reporting processes, including producing timelines and communicating requirements to the businesses.
  • Partner with Corporate Investor Relations to deliver the U.S. section of our external earnings press releases, management discussion and analysis, and financial supplement. Facilitate meetings with key U.S. stakeholders to discuss and propose external messaging.
  • Partner with U.S. business units in developing and/or evaluating growth strategies,  key  initiatives,  strategic  pillars,  current  &  future  partnerships,  new product development, and M&A opportunities
  • Collaborate with business partners across the organization to ensure the integrity of the Business Group’s financial management performance.
  • Evolve financial reports through use of newer technologies to improve efficiency and analytical capabilities and shorten the close cycle.
  • Proactively participate in various working groups focused on open communications, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Responds to questions from management which may include research, identifying issues and making recommendations
  • Drives and/or participates in special projects, initiatives and analysis as requested based on business/financial needs

What you will bring with you: 

  • Advanced analytical/problem-solving skills - ability to dig deep into the source of an issue and synthesize data to present findings & recommendations
  • Ability to manage complexity and competing priorities to work effectively within time constraints
  • Strong organizational skills - accurate and detailed oriented
  • Strong communication skills including the ability to communicate effectively with senior management and internal/external stakeholders
  • Strong management skills – ability to delegate and develop staff
  • Strong collaboration skills – ability to work cross functionally
  • Advanced financial modeling, PowerPoint and presentation skills

Education and Experience:

  • Professional designation (CPA, CFA, FSA) preferred with substantial knowledge and experience in the Insurance Industry
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher, specializing in mathematics, statistics, actuarial science, economics or corporate finance
  • 10+ Years of experience and expertise in areas including financial modeling, financial reporting, valuation and/or pricing
  • Strong leadership and management skills with proven expertise in managing & developing team
