Reporting to the Leader, AppOps – RTR, Overlays, and Product Enablement, the AppOps Senior Specialist will be a hands-on developer with advanced expertise in Site Reliability engineering and Application Management. You will be responsible for maintaining, enhancing, tuning and supporting Interac’s high performance payment systems. You will diagnose, resolve, and mitigate application problems and ensure optimal performance and availability of our critical payment systems. You will focus on building and driving automation, proactive observability, detection, and self healing capabilities. You will respond to and action critical application alerts and mitigate against any service and client impact. This is a fast-paced technical role which requires strong application and systems insights, and experience working with cloud platforms and infrastructure as a code in an Agile environment. 

You’ll be responsible for:  

• Optimizing application performance utilizing a strong developer mindset and leveraging application performance data, and comprehensive monitoring / diagnostic tools.

• Analyzing application trends, driving detailed root cause analysis, and deep dive into the code to identify and implement performance tuning and enhancement opportunities.

• Driving and prioritizing application and service automation and optimization initiatives with product, development, and technical teams.

• Developing and implementing automation solutions, reducing manual intervention, and streamlining the process for application deployments/validations and management (self-healing, auto-scaling, etc.)

• Designing and instrumenting Enhanced Application insights including observability and trending (health rules, events, alerts) with a focus on predictive analysis and proactive intervention.

• Create and maintain detailed technical documentation for our applications and systems.

• Consolidate and automate dashboards, events and reports on Application performance metrics/KPIs.

• Collaborate with development, operations, and security teams to apply best practices into all aspects of Application Operations (e.g. CI/CD, IaC, security tool integrations).

• Responding to and quickly resolving critical issues, 24/7 rotating on call production support and proactively mitigating risk to production systems.

You bring:  

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.

• You have 3+ years of advanced programming experience (Java, Python, Spring Framework, AngularJS, etc.)

• You have advanced expertise in using version control systems, such as Git, for managing codebases and collaboration.

• You have advanced expertise with scripting e.g. Power Shell, Python, and Ansible.

• You have advanced experience working with, deploying and maintaining Dockerized applications.

• You have advanced experience using tools such as Azure Monitor, AppDynamics, Splunk, Dynatrace, Grafana, ServiceNow, PagerDuty.

• You have strong experience in Cloud technologies (Azure, AWS)

• You have strong knowledge of Agile development and Agile frameworks (e.g. JIRA, GitHub)

• You have a good understanding of software lifecycle including release planning, release processes, software testing, incident, problem and change management.

• You have a good understanding of database systems such as Oracle, PostgresSQL.

• You have a good understanding of different types of open-source packages, preferably Spring, Apache and data transformation (jaxb2, JSON, XML).

• You are well versed in analyzing data, identifying and proactively mitigating risk to production systems.

• You have strong written and verbal communication skills and can seamlessly communicate with business and technical teams.

• You are a strong and energetic team player and are able to engage with all stakeholders in a team environment.
