About the role

We are seeking a strategic and hands-on Head of Software Engineering to lead our software development teams. This role is ideal for a seasoned engineering leader with a passion for agile delivery, technical excellence, and long-term team development across diverse technologies.

You will manage a large, multidisciplinary team of engineers, ensure the adoption of best-in-class SDLC practices, and deliver high-quality software solutions at speed. A strong command of Azure Cloud native services and DevOps practices using GitLab is essential.

Leadership & Strategy

  • Define and execute the engineering strategy aligned with business and IT goals.
  • Build and scale a high-performing team with diverse programming skills (e.g., Java, .NET, Python, JavaScript, etc.).
  • Foster a culture of innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Communication: Clearly articulating the company's technical vision and strategy to the engineering team, other departments, and executive leadership

Agile Delivery Excellence

  • Champion agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban, SAFe) to ensure fast and reliable delivery.
  • Collaborate closely with product owners, business analysts, and stakeholders to prioritize and deliver impactful features.

SDLC & Technical Governance

  • Implement and enforce best-in-class SDLC practices including CI/CD, automated testing, code reviews, and DevSecOps. Optimize workflows to increase efficiency and productivity
  • Oversee architectural decisions and ensure scalability, maintainability, and performance of systems.
  • Drive cloud-native development using Azure services (e.g., App Services, Functions, AKS, Cosmos DB, etc.).
  • Contribute to DevOps transformation and automation using GitLab for source control, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure as code.
  • Technical Vision: Staying current with emerging technologies and industry trends to make informed decisions about the company's technical direction.
  • Problem-Solving: The ability to provide guidance and oversight on complex technical challenges.
  • Deep Understanding of OWASP & Secure SDLC: Champion a security-first mindset by integrating secure coding practices and vulnerability management throughout the entire software development lifecycle (SDLC), guided by a deep understanding of OWASP principles like the OWASP Top 10.
  • Proactive Threat Management: Actively identify, prioritize, and mitigate security risks and vulnerabilities through threat modeling, code analysis (SAST/DAST), and collaboration with security teams to ensure the resilience of systems and applications

Talent Development & Team Management

  • Lead recruitment, onboarding, and career development for engineering talent.
  • Manage resources to ensure projects are delivered on time and within scope.
  • Promote cross-functional collaboration and knowledge sharing across teams.

Compliance & Risk Management

  • Ensure software development complies with internal policies, security standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor engineering KPIs and delivery metrics to assess team health and performance.

Required experience & competencies

  • 10+ years of experience in software engineering, with at least 5 years in leadership roles.
  • Proven track record of managing large engineering teams in agile environments.
  • Business driven mindset with a strong appetite to understand functional context
  • Strong understanding of SDLC, DevOps, and software architecture principles.
  • Expertise in Azure Cloud native services and GitLab-based DevOps workflows.
  • Experience in insurance, financial services, or regulated industries is a plus.

Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and leadership skills.

Required Education

  • Degree in Computer Science, Management of Information Systems, or a related analytical field; or equivalent experience.
