The Visual Arts Program
In the heart of San José’s art district, Notre Dame is surrounded by the rich artistic landscape of local museums and venues. The philosophy of the Visual and Performing Arts Department is to create a community of reflective, thoughtful, risk-taking artists who pursue their own creative goals and self-expression in an environment that nurtures empathy through creative action and emphasizes art as an avenue for social justice.
Responsibilities:
Teach 2 courses: Intro to Photography, Yearbook
Within the yearbook course, oversee the creation, design, and publication of the school yearbook. This includes partnering with our finance team and the publishing house.
Oversee the Press Corps program which includes student press staff and collaborating with the Publications team. This includes the management of technology resources such as cameras, charges, memory cards, etc.
Collaborate with colleagues both within the department and across school programs to develop a vision for Visual Arts within the Visual and Performing Arts program at Notre Dame
Align instruction with department outcomes and graduation outcomes
Willingness to work with individual students to develop portfolios and independent study projects in the arts
Willingness to integrate community arts resources into the Visual Arts program
Be familiar with educational research and current literature in academic area
Attend various school functions
QualificationsMinimum Qualifications:
BA in Art required
Teaching credential in the content area is preferred
Current experience working in a secondary school
Yearbook course experience preferred
Ability to teach art in several genres including digital art
Terms of Employment:
2026 - 27 academic year
Annual renewable contract
