Job Description:
Part-time instructor positions (as defined by State Board Policy, BP 3-10) exist to create and maintain a teaching and learning environment that empowers students to be successful. Part-time instructors work under the direction of their respective Department Chair, Associate Dean, or Division Dean.
Pikes Peak State College maintains a pool of qualified part-time instructors. Part-time instructors will be selected to support departmental requirements. Part-time instructors may be employed to teach courses, conduct presentations or other service activities when current instructors and faculty are not available.
Must be a State of Colorado resident or able to relocate to Colorado prior to first date of employment. All work must be performed in the State of Colorado.
Minimum Qualifications
- Current Certified Dental Assistant Credential (Dental Assisting National Board)
- Completed Bachelor’s degree or enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program that can be completed within 3 years of employment.
- Current CPR certification
- Must possess or be eligible to obtain a Colorado Career and Technical Education Teaching Credential
- One year post-secondary teaching/tutoring experience

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:- Provide didactic, laboratory and clinical instruction on a variety of topics such as oral anatomy, dental science, dental charting, dental materials, dental radiography, specialties in dentistry, clinical procedures, dental office equipment operation, business office procedures, ethics and jurisprudence, infection control and safety measures, medical emergencies in the dental office, preventive dentistry, nutrition and expanded functions dental assisting in Colorado.
- Participate in advisory committee meetings, dental assisting departmental meetings, divisional meetings, professional development activities, college wide committees, and student enrichment activities.
- Develop curriculum and student evaluation instruments to keep courses relevant to current trends in dentistry.
- Maintain accurate student grade and attendance records.
- Maintain good order and discipline in the classroom/laboratory settings.
- Maintain instructional equipment, infection control and safety protocols and supply inventories.
- Practice resource conservation by avoiding the wasteful use of supplies, utilities, equipment and other resources.
- Instruct and supervise students in the practice of resource conservation.
- Utilize communication skills that foster supportive and positive learning environments for students.
- Work effectively in a diverse and inclusive environment.
