Purpose

This ecology research technician position will provide support to field, lab, and greenhouse research projects undertaken by the Wolf lab at the University of Texas. The main portion of this position will be to support a large in-progress greenhouse experiment, working closely PI Wolf as well as postdocs and graduate students in the lab to maintain and harvest plants growing in the UT greenhouse in support of grant-funded research. Other activities will involve helping collect greenhouse, lab, and field data streams, conducting lab activities such as soil sample preparation, and conducting plant phenology data analysis using R.

Responsibilities

  • Maintaining and harvesting plants growing in the UT greenhouse in support of grant-funded research

  • Lab-based soil sample preparation

  • Plant phenology data analysis

  • Support of other greenhouse, lab, and field experiments in the Wolf lab

Required Qualifications

  • BS or equivalent in ecology

  • Ability to identify central Texas plant species

  • Attention to detail; excellent organizational and problem-solving skills

  • Excellent scientific communication skills

  • Must be able to work efficiently both individually and as part of a team

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience conducting biological and ecological research in greenhouse, laboratory and field settings in central Texas

  • Previous experience collecting and analyzing plant phenology datasets

  • Previous experience collecting and processing soil samples for elemental analysis

Salary Range

$38,000 + depending on qualifications

Work Shift

  • 40 hours/week is required, and most of this time should be during normal business hours (e.g. 800am-5:00pm), although number of hours/day and days/week may change depending on what projects are being pursued.
