Position Purpose:
The Lower School Music & Drama Teacher creates an engaging and joyful arts program for students in Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 5. Through music, drama, and performance, this teacher helps students develop creativity, confidence, collaboration, and self-expression while leading grade-level performances and supporting the vibrant arts culture of the Ponte Vedra Beach Campus.
This position will commence with the 2026-2027 academic year
Essential Functions:
Instruction
Plan and deliver engaging music and drama instruction for students in Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 5.
Implement the Lower School Fine Arts curriculum through developmentally appropriate, student-centered learning experiences.
Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs, interests, and abilities of students.
Foster creativity and a love of music and drama through singing, movement, instrument exploration, listening activities, improvisation, drama games, character development, and performance.
Establish a safe, respectful, and engaging classroom environment that supports student learning.
Assess student learning and maintain accurate student records and report card comments.
Performances & Productions
Direct grade-level performances and productions that showcase student learning and celebrate the arts within the Lower School community.
Plan and conduct the annual Lower School Winter Concert.
Teach performance skills including vocal expression, movement, stage presence, collaboration, and character development.
Coordinate and maintain costumes, props, instruments, music, and other production materials
Collaboration & Communication
Collaborate with classroom teachers to integrate music and drama across the curriculum.
Build positive partnerships with students, families, and colleagues through regular communication.
Participate in parent conferences, faculty meetings, and school events.
School Community
Support student arrival, dismissal, lunch, and other supervisory responsibilities as part of the Lower School team.
Participate in ongoing professional learning and remain current in music, drama, and elementary education best practices.
Contribute positively to the life of the school and perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Music Education, Theatre Education, Elementary Education, or a related field required.
Minimum of three years of experience teaching elementary-aged students.
Experience directing elementary performances, musical productions, or theatrical presentations preferred.
Working knowledge of music instruction and the technical aspects of theatrical and/or choral performances.
