About the role

Job Description Summary

The Services Instrumentation and Controls C10 / C35.6 mechanical engineer is responsible for designing , developing, and testing Instrumentation and Control (I&C) equipment that control safety critical functions for the BWRX-300 Small Module Reactor. Their specific focus is on mechanical components which hold electronic equipment and the interconnecting cables. This role requires technical problem solving, requirements management, and effective communication/collaboration with other teams and engineering disciplines.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate accountability for cost, schedule, quality, and technical accuracy of assigned tasks. 
  • Document requirements and ensure designs meet requirements. 
  • Develop / modify mechanical designs to hold electronic components while meeting all requirements for installations in Nuclear power plants.
  • Confirm designs meet requirements through analysis and testing.
  • Engage customers to define scope, review results, and discuss technical risks.
  • Work with the technical leader to establish an effective work plan, including time estimates, schedule estimates, requirements and work processes.
  • Apply engineering fundamentals and 1st order engineering principles to establish and/or confirm expected performance.
  • Provide clear and complete analysis documentation in accordance with GE engineering procedures.
  • Manage time effectively to provide quality deliverables within the expected project timeline.  Communicate effectively to leadership the status of work activities.
  • Effectively manage multiple priorities.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Computer Engineering from an accredited university or college. ​
  • 4 years industry experience in mechanical design.

Eligibility Requirements

  • For US - This role requires access to U.S. export-controlled information. If applicable, final offers will be contingent on ability to obtain authorization for access to U.S. export-controlled information from the U.S. Government.
  • For Canada GE will only employ those who are legally authorized to work in Canada for this opening.
  • For Canada - This position will report onsite to the Markham office 3 days a week.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience in highly regulated industry.
  • Instrumentation and Controls cabinet design experience with cable design and routing experience.
  • Seismic analysis qualification experience.
  • Familiarity with Nuclear standards and qualification methods.
  • Boiling Water Reactor / Small Module Reactor design experience.
  • Extensive familiarity with Inventor, SolidWorks, and / or AutoCAD.
  • Solves technical challenges through application of common design patterns and identifying appropriate patterns for use in problem solving.
  • Experience with typical engineering project design methods from requirements definition through confirmation testing of final design.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills and ability to articulate clearly.
  • Contributes to creative solutions and challenges status quo.
  • Proactively learns new tools and identifies opportunities for improvement and promotes their adoption​.
