Postdoctoral Associate (Sacanna/Chaikin Lab)
New York UniversityAbout the role
Description
Applications are solicited for an individual to be appointed as a postdoctoral associate under the supervision of Prof. Stefano Sacanna and Prof. Paul Chaikin. The research will focus on experimental studies in soft condensed matter physics, particularly involving optical trapping and active colloidal materials. The successful candidate will engage in cutting-edge research exploring the behavior of active colloidal systems. This includes designing and conducting experiments using optical trapping techniques to manipulate and study colloidal particles. The research aims to deepen our understanding of non-equilibrium phenomena, self-assembly processes, and emergent behaviors in active matter systems.
Responsibilities include:
• Designing and performing experiments involving optical trapping of colloidal particles.
• Developing novel experimental setups to investigate active colloidal materials.
• Analyzing data and collaborating with theoretical team members to interpret results.
• Publishing research findings in peer-reviewed journals and presenting at scientific conferences.
• Mentoring junior researchers and contributing to a collaborative lab environment.
The terms of employment, which would be a year, with a possibility of renewal, include a competitive salary and other benefits. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis, and candidates will be considered until the position is filled.
In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, this position's annual base salary range is $62,500.00 – $64,000.00. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) the specific grant funding and the terms of the research grant when extending an offer.
Qualifications
Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Chemistry, Physics, or Applied Mathematics and no more than five years of postdoctoral training.
Application Instructions
To be considered, all applicants must submit a cover letter summarizing research experience and specifying their interests in this position (less than two pages), a curriculum vitae (including a complete list of publications), and two contacts to serve as references (previous research mentors are preferred as references).
