Job Opportunity- Quality Technician- FAI Outbound

Reports to: Quality Manager

The Outbound First Article Inspector (FAI) is responsible for preparing and completing comprehensive First Article Inspection reports using AS9102 forms (Forms 1, 2, and 3) and/or customer-specific documentation. This role involves conducting detailed inspections of electronic assemblies, subassemblies, and components prior to shipment to ensure compliance with engineering specifications, customer requirements, and industry standards. The ideal candidate will have strong attention to detail, proficiency with inspection tools, and prior experience in an EMS, aerospace, medical device, or military manufacturing environment.


What a Day Looks Like:

  • Prepare, complete, and submit First Article Inspection (FAI) reports in accordance with AS9102 requirements and customer-specific formats.
  • Perform outbound FAIs to ensure conformance to AS9102, engineering drawings, specifications, and contract requirements.
  • Interpret and verify customer purchase orders, technical drawings, specifications, and quality documentation.
  • Inspect for proper part numbers, revision levels, dimensional accuracy, material traceability, and workmanship per IPC-A-610 and J-STD-001 standards.
  • Utilize inspection tools and equipment such as calipers, micrometers, height gauges, microscopes, and magnifiers for both dimensional and visual inspections.
  • Collaborate with Quality, Engineering, and Manufacturing teams to resolve discrepancies and support root cause/corrective action activities.
  • Accurately document all inspection results, maintain traceability, and ensure compliance with internal procedures and applicable quality management standards (AS9100/ISO 9001).
  • Support internal and external audits, including customer source inspections and regulatory assessments.
  • Maintain an organized, ESD-safe, and clean inspection work area in accordance with safety and operational protocols.

Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical training in electronics or quality inspection strongly preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, bills of materials, and quality specifications.
  • Skilled in using inspection and measurement tools (e.g., calipers, micrometers, microscopes).
  • Strong attention to detail, documentation skills, and problem-solving ability.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and experience with quality management systems (QMS) or ERP systems.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficient in AS9102 First Article Inspection requirements and documentation.
  • IPC-A-610 and/or J-STD-001 Certification(s) and/or Working knowledge of IPC-A-610 and J-STD-001 workmanship standards.
  • Experience in quality inspection within an electronics manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with AS9100 or ISO 9001/13485-regulated environments.
  • Familiarity with GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing).
  • Experience working with aerospace, medical device, or military contract manufacturing customers.
