Senior Manager, Software Development, Digital Commerce

We are searching for a skilled Senior Manager, Software Development to tackle complex challenges in digital entertainment, subscriptions, and voice shopping. Our customers are rapidly growing their demand for a diverse range of digital content, subscriptions, and services on Amazon and non-Amazon devices. To meet this demand, we must continuously explore new ways to monetize and offer content to various devices, working with authors, musicians, video artists, publishers, studios, vendors, and other content creators.

As a Senior Manager, you will lead the charge in building the next-generation shopping and instant fulfillment transactional platform that is both flexible and scalable to handle hundreds of millions of transactions daily and deliver a shallow latency customer experience. You will be responsible for creating a seamless, dynamically configurable purchase and instantaneous fulfillment platform that can scale in terms of features and volume while maintaining extremely high availability.

You will also play a critical role in establishing technical standards and driving Amazon's overall technical architecture and engineering practices. You will work on Amazon's toughest challenges, producing high-quality, architecturally sound systems aligned with our business needs. You will be a hands-on manager that would lead high-level architectural designs and coding best practices.

As a Senior Manager, you will lead cross-functional projects, ensuring the quality of architecture and design of systems, with the goal of operational excellence. You will demonstrate your creativity and high judgment in decomposing complex problems into simple solutions, always striving to invent and simplify. You will have deep and broad expertise in performance, scalability, enterprise system architecture, and engineering best practices, with the ability to make the right tradeoffs when necessary.

In this role, you will manage and mentor others and help other managers guide the career growth of their team members. You will exert technical influence over multiple teams, increasing their productivity and effectiveness through your knowledge and experience. You will work effectively with product development and engineering teams across various geographies.

The ideal candidate will be a visionary leader and builder with experience leading multiple simultaneous product development efforts. You will have a balance of technical leadership and business savvy, making the right technology choices.

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or a related field
• A minimum of 10 years of experience in software development
• Deep expertise in one or more relevant programming languages and technologies
• Experience with distributed systems, scalability, and performance optimization
• Strong understanding of software engineering principles and design patterns
• Ability to decompose complex problems into simple and straightforward solutions
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Experience leading cross-functional teams and driving technical projects to successful completion
• Strong mentorship and leadership skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Strong experience in software development and architecture, with a proven track record of delivering high-quality, scalable systems.
• Extensive experience in cloud computing, and deep understanding of cloud-based architectures and distributed systems.
• Experience in leading cross-functional teams, with the ability to provide technical guidance and direction to other engineers.
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Experience in the digital entertainment, subscriptions, and voice shopping domains, with a deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities in these areas.
• Strong leadership skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate others to achieve common goals.
• Proven experience in mentoring and developing other engineers, and a commitment to helping others grow in their careers.
• Experience in Agile software development methodologies and practices, with a focus on delivering customer-focused solutions.
• A passion for innovation and a track record of driving new ideas and technologies into production.
