Outpatient Behavioral Health Representative
The Behavioral Health Representative (BHR) reports to the Clinic Manager and is responsible for performing all aspects of the position’s function including, but not limited to, registration of patients, obtaining appropriate insurance information, and scheduling patient appointments. It is expected that the BHR maintains department quality standards with a focus on exceptional customer service.

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Register and update patient accounts to ensure BMC has accurate and current information in order to process claims and obtain payment for service. Inform patients of their financial responsibility. Refer all non-funded patients to BMC Financial Counseling Department. Accurately schedule appointments within the electronic medical record system. Complete follow-up reminders for scheduled patients by phone and/or via mail. Electronically check and verify patient insurance and update accurately. Responsible for managing a high volume of external and patient phone calls. Maintains knowledge of applicable rules and regulations that impact mental health, chemical dependency services, as well as community and public support systems. Provide clerical support to clinical staff including completion of court paperwork, faxing and scanning as requested, and processing medication refills/prescriptions. Participate in cross-training team members and other staff as assigned. Collect patient payments as indicated by the BMC cash and credit collection policy. Identify potential problems and actively participate with team in problem-solving to find solutions. Support team members through problem-solving process. Provide dynamic customer service for all patients (and visitors) who access care at BMC. Embrace and support Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion initiatives. Perform other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- High school graduate or GED.
- Minimum of one year of experience in an appointment scheduling setting in which computer technology is employed and/or two years of customer service-related experience.
- Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
- Basic medical terminology knowledge.
