What Will Be On Your Plate?


Job Title: Clerk (temporary)
Department: Varies (e.g., Grocery, Dairy/Deli, Front-End)
Reports To: Department Manager
FLSA Status: Nonexempt


Summary
This is a customer service-driven position that requires a positive attitude, adaptability, and commitment to delivering exceptional service. Clerks perform a range of duties across departments, including stocking, cashiering, product rotation, customer support, and store upkeep. Ideal candidates are enthusiastic, dependable, and passionate about creating a welcoming and helpful environment for our customers.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Clerks are expected to provide high-quality service and support daily store operations by performing the following duties (other duties may be assigned):
• Engage with customers to provide service that exceeds expectations, including order assistance, locating items, and answering questions.
• Stock, rotate, and maintain merchandise across shelves, displays, coolers, and freezers.
• Operate a cash register, process customer transactions accurately, and follow cash handling procedures, including balancing the register.
• Ensure products are correctly priced and labeled; perform daily price updates with accuracy.
• Maintain cleanliness and safety in assigned areas, including floors, work surfaces, equipment, and displays.
• Retrieve shopping carts and hand baskets from designated areas, including the store perimeter and parking lot.
• Assist with carryout service and provide packaging according to customer preferences (paper, plastic, or both).
• Follow proper procedures for alcohol and tobacco sales in compliance with applicable laws and store policies.
• Support loss prevention, price integrity, and product quality through adherence to store policies and procedures.
• Report safety hazards, accidents, or incidents to a supervisor promptly and assist with safety documentation as required.
Customer Service Skills
Clerks are expected to provide customer service that is extraordinary and exceeds the expectations of our customers. They are required to follow established policies and guidelines that go beyond simply smiling and greeting customers. Going above and beyond encompasses attitudes, respect, and flexibility. Clerks are expected to have a positive “can-do” attitude; to treat others with respect; and easily adjust to changes in the workplace.

Education and/or Experience
High School diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred; or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write correspondence.

Mathematical Skills
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, usi
