Job Summary
Under the general supervision of the Director of Wellbeing & Health Equity, the Food Security Programs Lead is responsible for coordinating Cal Poly's food insecurity prevention and response programs, including food access initiatives, student support, outreach, and campus partnerships. The position serves as the lead for food insecurity programs and collaborates with campus partners supporting broader Basic Needs efforts.
The incumbent will take the lead in connecting students with essential campus and community resources, ensuring access to services such as the Cal Poly Food Pantry, the Meal Voucher Program, Cal Fresh, and the Community Food Pantry Garden.
Department Summary
The purpose of Campus Health & Wellbeing is to help students achieve and maintain academic success and lifelong health and wellbeing by providing timely and appropriate primary and acute health care, disease and injury prevention education, professional mental health, outreach, educational services and campus consultations.
Key Qualifications
- Thorough knowledge of the principles of individual and group behavior.
- General knowledge of the principles, practices and trends of the Student Services field, and of the policies, procedures and practices of the program area to which assigned.
- General knowledge of individual counseling and interviewing techniques, including the ability to recognize when a student's circumstances exceed the scope of this position.
- Working knowledge of student services programs outside the program to which immediately assigned.
- Knowledge of food insecurity trends and their intersection with housing insecurity, financial hardship, and student persistence; of food access and nutrition assistance programs; and of community-based resource and referral systems.
- Working knowledge of CalFresh eligibility criteria, student exemption rules, and application and recertification processes, or the ability to rapidly acquire such knowledge.
- Working knowledge of the application of FERPA and other higher education law and policy governing the handling of confidential student information.
Education and Experience
- Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in a related field, including or supplemented by upper division or graduate coursework in counseling techniques, interviewing, and conflict resolution where such are job-related.
- Possession of these knowledge and abilities is typically demonstrated through the equivalent of three years of progressively responsible professional student services work experience. One year in the program area to which assigned may be preferred but is not required.
- A master’s degree in Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Social Work, Higher Education, or a directly related field may be substituted for one year of experience.
- A doctorate degree and the appropriate internship or clinical training in counseling or guidance may be substituted for the three years of experience.
Licenses, Certificates, Credentials:
- Must obtain ServSafe Certification within the first 90 days of hire.
Salary and Benefits
Anticipated Hiring Range: $66,528 - $77,951 Per Year
Classification Range: $66,480 - $94,716 per year
Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Anticipated Hiring Range referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Classification Range may be broader than what the University anticipates paying for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
