The Customer Insights & Analytics team strives to make Nordstrom the best data-driven fashion retailer among competitors, who wins by rigorous and thoughtful application of data to unlock value for the enterprise.  The Data Analyst 1 role on the Nordstrom Media Network (NMN) Analytics team is responsible for collecting, analyzing, and presenting data to improve decision-making, specifically around media campaign performance recommendations. This individual should possess a high degree of curiosity about the business and the necessary analytical skills to discover actionable insights from data. They must be able to communicate those insights in a way that builds confidence and enables data-driven decisions that ultimately drive significant business value. 

 
The ideal candidate is an ultra-curious, creative self-starter with a background in media reporting and analytics, and a genuine passion for storytelling with data. This individual will be a proactive and analytical problem-solver who thinks strategically about business needs while consistently looking for new opportunities to solve business problems with data-driven tools. A day in the life…  

  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to define and address retail media performance problems using data analysis and following structured problem-solving frameworks. 

  • Mine and transform complex digital behavioral and media performance data into actionable information, identifying basic patterns and trends to summarize findings and key callouts. 

  • Apply analytical methods and data modeling (including basic statistical techniques) to answer strategic questions for the business. 

  • Develop and present clear solutions and insights to business stakeholders using data visualization tools like Looker or Looker Studio, ensuring documentation is clear and next steps are implementable. 

  • Provide exceptional service by working with stakeholders to build contextual understanding, demonstrating ownership, and proactively tracking and communicating project task status. 

  • Maintain high productivity through efficient use of time, double-checking work for accuracy, and a consistent commitment to delivering strong, timely results. 

You own this if you have… 

  • A degree in a quantitative field such as mathematics, statistics, business analytics, economics, finance, or a similar quantitative analytics discipline. 

  • 1+ years of corporate data analysis experience in customer/strategy analytics (retail a plus). 

  • A solid understanding of SQL scripting language for data manipulation and extraction. 

  • A working understanding of data visualization tools such as Looker or Looker Studio. 

  • Familiarity with Python is a plus. 

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey complex analytical results to non-experts.
