Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support drug screening, novel target identification and validation, including work with replication-incompetent lentiviruses, cell lines, primary cells, and tissues.

  • Develop and perform cell-based assays, flow cytometry, and biochemistry-based assays for drug discovery. Occasionally, you will also employ molecular biology (e.g. gel electrophoresis, cloning, qPCR, western blot, etc). 

  • Support biology and pharmacology studies by developing and performing analysis of tissues derived from preclinical models supplied by our in vivo team.

  • Employ good laboratory practices, data recording, analysis and documentation.

  • Collaborate effectively while working in a matrixed environment.

  • Present results in lab and department meetings.

  • Assist in writing research documents and publications.

Essential Requirements:

  • This is a dual posting. The final level and title of the offer role would be determined by the hiring team based on the skills, experience, and capabilities required to perform the role at the level the role has been offered (Research Scientist / Senior Scientist)

  • Bachelor’s degree in immunology, immuno-oncology, oncology, molecular or cell biology, biomedical engineering or a related field, Master’s degree preferred

  • Research Scientist: 3-5 years of relevant laboratory experience in industry or academia; Senior Scientist: 5-8 years of relevant laboratory experience in industry or academia

  • Senior Scientist: Extensive hands-on experience on immune cell-based assays, including primary immune cell isolation, manipulation, phenotyping and in vitro functional assays and mammalian cell line culture

  • Knowledge of immunology is required; tumor immunology and/or T cell biology is preferred

  • Significant experience with cell culture including cell lines and primary cells, ELISA, and multi-color flow cytometry

  • Demonstrated ability to quickly learn and perform in new areas, implement new techniques and instrumentation

  • Excellent presentation, communication (written and oral), documentation and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced and team-oriented environment

Preferred Requirements

  • Experience in molecular cloning, qPCR, reporter assays, viral generation and transduction, and gene silencing (RNAi or CRISPR) or other target validation activities 

  • Research Scientist: Extensive hands-on experience on immune cell-based assays, including primary immune cell isolation, manipulation, phenotyping and in vitro functional assays and mammalian cell line culture

  • A record of accomplishments with peer-reviewed publications; Rigorously scientifically motivated and having experience in independently designing, executing, developing and troubleshooting cell-based assays for drug discovery

Novartis Compensation and Benefit Summary: Novartis Compensation and Benefit Summary: The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $77,000 and $143,000/year for the Research Scientist and $85,400 and $158,600 for the Senior Scientist; however, while salary ranges are effective from 1/1/25 through 12/31/25, fluctuations in the job market may necessitate adjustments to pay ranges during this period.  Further, final pay determinations will depend on various factors, including, but not limited to geographical location, experience level, knowledge, skills, and abilities. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a sign-on bonus, restricted stock units, and discretionary awards in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
