SUMMARY

The City of Charlotte’s Department of General Services is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Engineering Project Manager to join the Consultant Project Management Program within the Engineering Services Division. This role is ideal for professionals who enjoy managing consultant-designed design projects, coordinating across departments, and delivering impactful transportation infrastructure for a growing city.

Major Duties & Responsibilities:

· Manage consultant-designed transportation infrastructure projects from planning through design and construction.

· Coordinate multi-departmental project teams, including Real Estate, Utilities, and Construction.

· Develop scopes of work, manage contracts, review invoices, and oversee consultant performance.

· Serve as the primary liaison to the public, property owners, media, and other stakeholders.

· Monitor project budgets, schedules, and deliverables to ensure timely and cost-effective outcomes.

· Prepare and review cost estimates and technical documentation.

· Coordinate with state and federal agencies on projects with alternative funding sources.

· Support public engagement and represent the City at community meetings and events.

· Perform special assignments and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

· Strong project management and organizational skills

· Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement abilities

· Ability to interpret and apply engineering principles throughout the project lifecycle

· Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel); experience with project management tools is a plus

· Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment

· Knowledge of transportation engineering standards and practices

Preferred Qualifications:

· 5+ years of experience in civil engineering, including geometric roadway and storm drainage design.

· Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.

Minimum Qualifications:

· Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field.

· At least 3 years of relevant experience in civil engineering or municipal Capital Investment projects.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

The City’s Background Check Policy requires background checks to be conducted on final internal or external candidate(s) applying for any position with the City of Charlotte.
