Job Description

AECOM is searching for motivated Mechanical Engineer, EIT (HVAC) candidate for our Chelmsford, MA office. This role will support a wide range of projects in HVAC, plumbing and fire protection. 

The responsibilities of the role are:

  • Performs specific and limited portions of a broader assignment of an experienced engineer.
  • Gathers and correlates basic engineering data using established and well-defined procedures.
  • Works on detailed or routine engineering assignments involving calculations and relatively simple tests.
  • Proposes approach to solve new problems encountered.
  • Identifies discrepancies in results.
  • Provides guidance to entry level engineers.
  • Performs work in accordance with agreed upon budget and schedule with moderate supervision.
  • Attend meetings and communicate the job from concept to completion in design
  • Interact with vendors.
  • HVAC and plumbing calculations (Trace 700 HVAC Software).
  • Create schedules installation details.
  • Select equipment - (B&G, Trane, Carrier, Cook, Greenheck, etc). 
  • Design HVAC and Plumbing system, including load and mechanical calculations, equipment selection (Boilers, AHU, pumps, Fans, air compressor, heat exchanger, coils, etc).
  • Interact with local HVAC manufacturer’s representative during the equipment selection process.
  • Prepare mechanical equipment schedule and installation details, including building elevations.
  • Size piping and ductwork distribution system.
  • Create/edit mechanical & plumbing specifications.
  • Respond to contractor RFI (request for information).
  • Review & approve/reject contractor submittals/shop drawings based on design documents.
  • Performs site visit on existing facilities and new construction.
  • Coordinate with others disciplines during the design and construction phases of every assigned project.
  • Performs mechanical, plumbing and NFPA codes/standards review.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:  

  • BA/BS Degree in Mechanical engineering from an accredited program or other related field required and 2 years of demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
  • EIT/FE exam
  • Experience with AutoCAD. 
  • Experience with Revit, BIM360, Navisworks, etc. 
  • Experience with HVAC Load Calculation software such as Trace 700, Elite, Carrier HAP.

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE).
  • 5+ years of related experience.
  • Ability to work with a diverse team located in the Chelmsford Design Center. 
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills. 
  • Detail-oriented and technical, yet experienced enough to see the big picture. 
  • Experienced, self-directed professional. 
  • Must be a highly motivated self-starter with solid writing and verbal communication skills. 
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy of work. 
  • Ability to meet quality, schedule and budget expectations. 
  • Ability to multi-task and be flexible, along with ability to adapt to project deadlines. 
  • Ability to work as a part of a design team and delegate task to junior engineers and CAD/Revit operator 
  • Ability to apply passion and enthusiasm for design in a collaborative and progressive team-oriented work environment.
