The Strategy and Controlling Business Unit is responsible for all strategic planning and controlling within Business Area Markets. We plan and provide the overall strategic direction for the Business Area, comprising of the business units Assets, Customers, and Trading. We are also responsible for controlling and financial planning for the Business Area.

Working student – Commercial Business Development
Join our team as a Working Student in Commercial Business Development, specializing in energy trading, where you will focus on external business activities such as power purchase agreements, green solutions, and market access initiatives. Utilize your analytical skills to drive strategic decision-making, apply and develop your commercial mindset to steer our external business forward, while also leveraging your capabilities to transform and innovate our electricity and energy offerings. This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the growth and sustainability of our business through your expertise and creativity.
In your role, you will support the Head of Business Development in the following tasks:
- Collaborate with team members to create detailed business cases for potential projects or initiatives.
- Conduct thorough financial analyses, market research, and risk assessments to support business case development and resent findings and recommendations to stakeholders clearly and concisely.
- Research and analyse market trends, competitive landscapes, and customer behaviours to identify new opportunities for growth, utilise data-driven insights to inform strategic decision-making and market positioning.
- Actively participate in project steering committees to provide insights, recommendations, and updates on ongoing initiatives.
- Support counterparty onboarding to align resources and priorities and ensure a smooth process.
- Generate creative and innovative ideas to enhance business development efforts and drive revenue growth in our renewables (PPA, CPPA), green solutions (Hydrogen, flexibility, biofuels), and market access businesses.
Qualifications
Candidates are likely to be advanced business students with an interest in the energy sector and a willingness to learn more about business- and financial analysis.
In addition, you’ll need to have:
- A positive self-starter mentality, with a commitment to deliver, prepared to roll up your sleeves when needed.
- An equally commercial and analytical mindset.
- An ability to interact with different stakeholders with ease and approach new contacts when needed.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc).
- Our working language is English.

Location
The location of the position is Hamburg, with the opportunity to work hybrid. Our brand-new office is located in Hamburg’s Hafencity quarter, easily reachable via public transportation, and offers a very innovative, collaborative, and interactive office atmosphere to prosper and learn in.
Contract & Contact details
You may start anytime with the intention to stay a minimum 6-12 months with us. Working time is 20 hours per week and up to 37 hours during non-lecture periods. We offer fair remuneration and flexible working hours.
