Job Description:
We are seeking a computer manager for the Earth Scan Lab (ESL), a facility within the Department of Oceanography and Coastal Sciences (DOCS). We desire a highly-motivated individual with strong computer science skills interested in managing Linux servers and workstations, while also assisting faculty and graduate students with research in the broad fields of satellite oceanography and meteorology. The manager is responsible for maintaining computer hardware and developing software that provide DOCS faculty and students with satellite image products, processing tools, and training. This position also maintains the ESL website (https://www.esl.lsu.edu) which is the primary vehicle for disseminating satellite images to DOCS faculty, regional, and national stakeholders. DOCS is in LSU's College of the Coast and Environment (https://www.lsu.edu/cce/) and has developed strong programs in biological, physical, chemical, and geological oceanography focused mainly on the Gulf of Mexico region (learn more about DOCS at https://www.docs.lsu.edu) and ESL at https://www.esl.lsu.edu).
Job Responsibilities:
30% Oversight of the configuration, maintenance, and backup of servers, workstations, and file systems.
25% Oversee the near real-time processing of satellite data products and their dissemination on the ESL website. Maintain, develop, and administer the Earth Scan Lab Website.
25% Supervise and assist student workers and provide insight to researchers; participate in DOCS instruction related to scientific programming and remote sensing classes.
15% Develop new satellite or remote sensing products in support of faculty research and ESL operations.
5% Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree and three years of experience
Specific Experience:
Experience with server-level systems using “Redhat”-variant Linux (RHEL, CentOS, Rocky, Fedora). Experience with the Python programming language and toolkits. Experience with website design and development.

Preferred Qualifications:
Master's Degree in Computer Science, Natural Science, Engineering or related field.
Preferred Certifications/Licenses:
Python3 code development for manipulation of satellite imagery and/or science data files (e.g. netCDF), “Matplotlib” (or equivalent) plotting, and “cartopy” (or equivalent) plotting of georeferenced datasets. BASH/ZSH shell scripting for routine production of science products. Experience with Linux tools (VSCode, git, Apache Directory Studio, etc) for code development, editing, and system administration. Minimum 1 year experience managing web servers (Apache, nginx), and SQL databases (postgres). Experience with NASA's SeaDAS software, ArcGIS, or other image processing software is desirable.
