About the role

Job Summary: The Activity Coordinator develops and provides services and programs to patients and families within ambulatory and inpatient settings. Works closely with various departments to assess needs and develop new programs to meet those needs. Trains and supervises volunteers working in various programs. Actively and consistently contributes to department operations and communications, behaves in a manner consistent with the mission, vision, and values of Pipeline Health, upholding standards of AIDET (Acknowledge, Introduce, Duration, Explanation, Thank you) patient communication.

Essential Functions:

  • Delivers care to assigned patients in accordance to Pipeline Health policy and procedure, Standards of Care, and the resident’s care plan.
  • Purchases instructional materials and teaching aids such as books, toys, and games designed to stimulate learning.
  • Confers with resident’s family members regarding facility activities function’s policy and procedures.
  • Coordinates special dinner and meals for residents, staff members, ancillary department staff and family members to expand the social sphere of the residents.
  • Arranges, review and approves menu plans and food purchases for special events as planned.
  • Transports residents as needed throughout the facility.
  • Assist residents in their recreational and social activities as needed.
  • Ensures staff members are knowledgeable and competent to deliver patient care to age specific patients as determined by license.
  • Performs teaching duties such as range of motion activities, reads or arranges readers for residents.
  • Arranges for religious services for residents.
  • Plans, special events such as birthday parties, luaus, and holiday affairs in accordance with unit practices and budgetary constraints.
  • Plans for musical entertainment to provide for a positive social environment for residents.
  • Arranges books on tapes and movie viewing for the intellectual stimulation and enrichment of residents.
  • Communicates significant resident’s condition in the resident’s attitude, appearance, behavior, and physical ability to the LVN team leader and the Registered Nurse/Charge Nurse, in a clear, concise and timely manner.
  • Pertinent data regarding patient status will be communicated to appropriate Healthcare Professionals.
  • Implements emergency measures (including CPR) immediately for life threatening emergencies.
  • Reads, implements, and remains current with all unit directives and communication.
  • Responds appropriately to patients and families cultural and spiritual consideration. Uses appropriate resources to meet the needs of patients.
  • Participates in multidisciplinary team meeting in developing plan of care for residents.
  • Uses clear, concise, professional communication with coworkers, patients, all customers internal and external.
  • Uses AIDET in interactions with patients and family members.
  • Acts with a sense of urgency when performing tasks.
  • Basic unit/department maintenance such as keeping files, drawers, cabinets free from unnecessary clutter.
  • Reports on any equipment and or environmental issues for repair.
  • Abides by HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) regulations.
  • Speaks up to stop the line and escalates potential safety events if necessary.
  • Completes and attends monthly training assigned.
  • May float to other areas of the hospital as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Proficiency in the utilization of Standard Precautions and infection control principles in patient care delivery, as stated in policy and procedure.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and appropriate assessment of signs/symptoms of abuse and/or neglect of patients of all ages.
