A Day in the Life
Are you looking to drive strategic cost improvement initiatives for the leader in the Medical Technology industry? As a program director in the Value Analysis/Value Engineering (VAVE) team supporting Enterprise Engineering, you will be responsible for leading a team of project managers to accomplish a key strategic program that is expected to generate significant savings over the 5-year strategic horizon. Key areas of focus will be building close partnerships with global manufacturing sites and Operations, utilizing strong business acumen and influence management skills to align with Operating Unit business strategies, and delivering robust cost improvement business cases to fuel program funding. This position will work closely with cross-functional partners to develop and execute a program of multiple projects designed to standardize materials across Medtronic and create a library of components for use in new product development. You will be at the forefront of Medtronic’s Mission to Alleviate Pain, Restore Health, and Extend Life by improving our capability to deliver life-saving products and fuel new product innovation.Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.
- Develops and owns the materials standardization and selection program across Medtronic to deliver $100M in savings over 5-year horizon
- Builds and manages a team of project managers who will be responsible for the execution of projects that will deliver to the cost savings target
- Leads program level meetings and reports status to management and key stakeholders
- Identifies and oversees successful execution of each project within the standardization program
- Builds strong relationships with manufacturing sites, Sourcing, and Operating Units to ensure support for respective design changes
- Aligns with counterparts in Sourcing, Materials Engineering, & Supplier Optimization to prioritize top opportunities
- Creates business cases to support top standardization opportunities
- Identifies and secures funding for top projects under the strategic program
- Obtains stakeholder engagement to ensure cost savings are funded, resourced, and realized
- Develops standard catalog/library of components and materials to drive efficiencies in new product development
- Maintains effective communication with the leadership team, project managers, and team members for all activities
- Monitors progress toward pre-established objectives, assesses risk and implements strategies to ensure successful delivery of the projects that align with business goals
- Delivers results with uncompromising quality, integrity, and ethics
- Travel requirement: less than 25%
Minimum Qualifications - To be considered for this role, please ensure the minimum requirements are evident on your applicant profile
- Bachelor’s degree and 7+ years of business process, Engineering Program Management and/or project management experience OR advanced degree and 5+ years of business process and/or project management experience.
- Experience in design changes with technical background in the medical device industry.
Nice to Have
- MS degree in engineering or scientific field. Ten years of technical work experience; over five years of project and/or people management experience

- Demonstrated track record in successfully leading larger strategic programs to completion on time and within budget
- Working knowledge of project management methodologies and tools, particularly on Risk Based Decision Making
- Demonstrated strong business acumen and planning
- Strong communication skills: written, verbal, listening (with all levels of the organization)
- Strong interpersonal, and problem-solving skills
- Influence management skills. Ability to influence both OU level leaders and individual contributors
- Ability to facilitate team meetings, creates and delivers presentations, and drive meetings to action-oriented decisions
- Experience supporting cross-functional and cross-regional teams in a matrixed organization and developing collaborative relationships
- Results oriented; ability to drive to completion in adherence to aggressive project schedules
- Identifies and resolves issues in a proactive, creative, and timely fashion
