About the role
The IT Support Specialist Intern role provides a hands-on opportunity to gain experience in IT support, collaborate on a cross-functional capstone project, and gain exposure to cybersecurity operations. Working closely with Shorr’s Service Desk team with direct collaboration and other IT teams, the IT Support Specialist Intern will play a key role in supporting our business while looking for continuous improvements and collaborating on a capstone project. The IT Support Specialist Intern will also be exposed to Shorr’s Cyber Security team and operations taking away best practices and an understanding how Shorr Packaging’s data and technology are protected. The intern will walk away from this internship with real-world experience in IT support and cybersecurity, exposure to enterprise IT service management tools like Freshservice, team collaboration and project management skills and mentorship from experience professionals in IT and security. Responsibilities
- Provide first-level technical support to end-users via Freshservice ticketing system.
- Troubleshoot hardware, software, and network issues across various platforms.
- Assist with onboarding/offboarding tasks including account setup and equipment provisioning.
- Document solutions and contribute to internal knowledge resources.
- Learn how enterprise IT teams manage support operations in a real-world environment.
- Shadow the Cybersecurity team to understand threat monitoring, vulnerability management, incident response, and risk management.
- Assist with basic tasks such as log reviews, alert responses, or vulnerability scan reviews under supervision.
- Work with fellow interns across departments on a strategic capstone project.
- Participate in planning, research, and execution phases.
- Present findings and outcomes to leadership at the conclusion of the internship.
- Current Sophomores or Juniors pursuing a degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or related field.
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
- Familiarity with Windows, macOS, and basic networking concepts.
- Interest in cybersecurity and IT operations.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Strong problem-solving, analytical, and critical thinking abilities.
