Description
The Department of Comparative Medicine at Stanford University is currently seeking a veterinary clinical pathologist to serve as the Director for the Veterinary Service Center (VSC) Animal Diagnostic Laboratory. A DVM/VMD degree and ACVP or ECVP board certification or board eligibility is required. Academic rank (Assistant, Associate, Full Professor) and line (University Medical Line, Clinician Educator) will be determined by the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate.
- The major criteria for appointment in the University Medical Line shall be excellence in the overall mix of clinical care, clinical teaching, scholarly activity that advances clinical medicine, and institutional service appropriate to the programmatic need the individual is expected to fulfill.
- The major criterion for appointment as Clinician Educators is excellence in the overall mix of clinical care, teaching, administrative and/or scholarship appropriate to the programmatic need the individual is expected to fulfill.
Qualifications
Applicants should have a working knowledge of veterinary clinical pathology for a variety of species, including common laboratory animal species, especially rodents, swine and sheep, nonhuman primates and aquatics. Knowledge of, or willingness to learn, rodent strain-related idiosyncrasies, testing and interpretation, molecular diagnostics, bacteriology, biosafety and quality assurance, and health surveillance protocols in a laboratory animal setting is highly desirable. Additional responsibilities include outreach and consultation with research laboratories, assistance with study design, and working one-on-one with researchers (principal investigators, post-doctoral students, graduate students, and research laboratory staff). The successful candidate will also provide laboratory animal clinical pathology training for trainees participating in the Department’s American College of Laboratory Animal Medicine Residency and the Master of Laboratory Animal Science program. Development of Instructional hands-on workshops, in-person classes and/or online training modules related to laboratory animal clinical pathology is expected.
