Driver Collector/Hauler II

Position Summary

The starting hourly rate for this position is $21.42, with an increase to $22.55 after successful completion of a six-month probationary period.   MSU Benefits - Free comprehensive health care for you and your family as well as a 10% contribution toward your retirement; Generous sick, vacation, personal and holiday time.

This position is not eligible for remote work. Regular in-person attendance is required to meet business and customer needs. 

This position will provide responsive customer service through the operation of vehicles and equipment to collect and deliver refuse and recyclable materials to appropriate destinations. Accurately record collections data for billing and to inform decision making.

Minimum Requirements

• Must have at least 100 hours of actual documented driving time with a Heavy Equipment Operator/Hauler or equivalent combination of training and experience.
• Graduation from high school or an equivalent combination of education and experience is necessary.
• One year experience as a Driver Collector/Hauler I with knowledge of the tools, equipment and processes used in recycling and refuse operations, or equivalent combination of training and experience.
• Possession of a valid Michigan Group A or B Commercial Driver's License with air brakes endorsement and a valid medical certificate. Applicants must have a good driving record and submit their operator's license number on their application form for a motor
vehicle check.
• Possession or attainment of a MSU Forklift Operator's permit prior to completion of applicable probation or trial period.
• Frequent lifting of 26 to 75 pounds and occasional lifting of over 75 pounds.

Summary of Physical Demands

Lifting material from floor and placing in carts.  Lifting and dumping recycling containers. Up to 75lbs for up to 3 hours per day.

Carrying surplus items and recyclables from rooms or outside to carts.  Up to 50lbs up to 2 hours per day.

Pushing carts of surplus, recycling, trash and food waste up to 300lbs using carts or dollies for up to 2 hours per day.

Climbing stairs to get to and off trucks and up to the sort line carrying up to 25lbs for up to 1 hour per day.
