We are seeking a skilled Electrical Commissioning Lead with a strong background in electrical equipment testing and commissioning. This role plays a critical part in the safe and efficient construction and startup of advanced process gas technologies, including Steam Methane Reformers (SMR) and cryogenic systems such as Air Separation Units (ASU) and Syngas Distillation. The successful candidate will lead commissioning efforts across the Americas region, ensuring adherence to safety, quality, and operational standards.

This position requires 75% - 80% domestic / global travel.

Required Skills / Abilities:

Safety Leadership

  • Champion a strong safety culture on-site, ensuring all commissioning activities comply with Air Products EH&S procedures.
  • Ensure proper electrical PPE is available and team members are trained in its use.
  • Implement and enforce electrical isolation and LOTO procedures during construction, commissioning, and operations.

Commissioning Execution

  • Coordinate between electrical contractors, commissioning teams, and Air Products electrical personnel.
  • Schedule and oversee electrical testing, inspections, and documentation.
  • Participate in Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) for major electrical equipment.
  • Conduct operational readiness inspections, pre-startup safety reviews, and punch list resolution.

Team Leadership

  • Supervise and guide the electrical commissioning team (Air Products staff and contractors).
  • Drive collaboration with E&I construction teams to ensure timely equipment turnover.
  • Monitor progress, address non-conformances, and ensure commissioning milestones are met.

Troubleshooting & Reliability

  • Diagnose and resolve electrical equipment issues efficiently.
  • Conduct root cause analyses and recommend corrective actions.
  • Identify and escalate safety or reliability concerns related to electrical systems.

Education & Experience

  • High school diploma with formal technical training in electrical construction, maintenance, and testing.
  • Proven experience in electrical commissioning, construction, and troubleshooting.
  • Familiarity with Air Products technologies, standards, and procedures is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of electrical distribution systems and equipment.
  • Proficient in interpreting single-line diagrams, control schematics, and construction drawings.
  • Experience with protection relay setup and programming (e.g., SEL, Multilin).
  • Knowledge of industry standards including NFPA 70, NEC, and NFPA 70E.
  • Hands-on experience with electrical testing tools and standards (e.g., NETA, megger, ductor, hi-pot, SFRA).
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills.
  • Ability to lead under pressure and make sound decisions in high-stress environments.
  • Team-oriented with a proactive and positive attitude
  • Must complete an 18–24 month training and qualification program to earn the Qualified Electrical Commissioning (QEC) title. A grade level promotion will follow successful completion.
