Job Description
The Machinist/Millwright position is focused on servicing and addressing our manufacturing team's need to repair and maintain production equipment. This includes the following: complete scheduled and non-scheduled maintenance, this may encompass improvements to equipment if necessary. The Machinist/Millwright will build, repair, or modify current production machines or machine components, equipment, and tooling to assist our manufacturing team in producing the highest quality products for our customers. This person will bolster the manufacturing and support teams by demonstrating exceptional troubleshooting skills with familiar and unfamiliar production equipment resulting in the best repair solution. The execution of a repair solution can occur independently or with other team members. The repair solution will be completed using the highest quality of work ethic and efficiency to restore our manufacturing operation to running condition. The ability to work well with others and exceptional listening skills are critical in this position. You will be working with other skilled tradespeople but mainly working with production teams to assist in fixing problems crucial to safety, quality, and delivery of products for the business. When applicable, a solid ability to work within close tolerances and demonstrate precise dimensions in machining and machine repair is critical and required in this position.
Wage: $38.33-$42.95/per hour
This position will likely be for Weekend Swing Shift.
TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
ESSENTIAL
- Sets up, maintains, and operates a variety of machine tools, and fits and assembles parts to fabricate or repair machine tools and industrial machines.
- Observes and listens to operating machinery or equipment to diagnose machine malfunction and determines need for adjustment or repair for operations.
- Confers with engineers or production personnel to resolve machinery or assembly problems when necessary. Removes machine or mechanism from production area and moves to the Machine Shop using a forklift.
- Studies blueprints, sketches, machine parts or specifications to determine type of metal stock required, dimensions and tolerances of piece to be machined. Measures, marks, and scribes’ dimensions and reference points on metal stock surfaces using calibrated ruler, micrometer, caliper, and scribe. Plans layout and sequence of operations. Selects feed rate, cutting speed, depth of cuts, and proper cutting tool for each operation. Monitors operation. Regulates tool position and action.
- Dismantles machine or equipment using hand tools or power tools, to examine parts for defect or to remove defective part. Cleans parts as needed. Replaces defective part with new part, or repairs or reproduces part from various kinds of metal stock, using hand tools such as a scraper file and drills, and machine tools such as lathe, milling machine, shaper, borer, and grinder. Assembles and tests operates machine to verify correction of malfunction.
- Fabricates machines, mechanisms, and tools (including experimental/ prototype) by consulting with engineers and production personnel regarding design, capacity, purpose, and types of material, etc. to be used for fabricating product. Analyzes written specifications, drawings, rough sketches, and verbal instructions to plan layout and determine sequence of operations.
- Designs fixtures, jigs, tooling, and experimental parts to meet special engineering needs. Sets up and operates machine tools and machines parts to specifications. Verifies conformance of parts, by measuring.
- Aligns components for assembly, and bolts, screws, dowels, welds, or rivets parts together. Removes high spots and smooth surfaces.
- Tests experimental models under simulated operating conditions for development, standardization, and feasibility of design. Install parts such as hydraulic systems, pneumatic or electrical components. Forms and fastens piping fixtures and attachments required to service machine with air, water, and oil.
- Evaluates process and makes recommendation for change or modification to improve efficiency and adaptability to setup and production.
- Welds, cuts, brazes, or solders parts as needed.
- Analyzes problems and makes repairs or replacements to hydraulic systems.
