JOB SUMMARY
Working independently and exercising good judgment and discretion, the Sports Performance Work Study is responsible for assisting workout programs for assigned Club Sports teams. Vital to the position is the ability to work with athletes of various backgrounds and focus, from those being elite, highly trained athletes, to those just starting to pursue strength & conditioning. The person will be highly organized and have a strong sense of purpose both in regard to facility cleaning and maintenance, and assisting running teams through their workouts. This person reports to the Director of Sports Performance.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Work with other Sports Performance Coaches to build programs suitable for their individual teams and sports.
- Assist in the management of assigned Strength Training facility: monitor & maintain safety and cleanliness.
- Supervise and assist team during workouts ensuring the safety and progression of each athlete.
- Supervise and assist open gym workouts ensuring the safety and progression of each athlete.
- Assist with data collection, entry, and analysis.
- Works effectively as a team member, embracing and fostering LU’s mission.
QUALIFICATIONS AND CREDENTIALS
Education and Experience
Pursuing a four-year college degree, with a concentration in Exercise science with a specialty in fitness. Strong movement and weight lifting experience required. Well-developed communications skills. Current in First Aid and CPR certification. Willing to complete higher education.

Communication and Comprehension
Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing to convey clear, well articulated information. Ability to understand, speak, and write English in order to convey messages and correspond in an articulate and professional manner. Possess public communication skills that allow professional representation of Liberty University to a variety of business and community customers and associates. Strong organizational skills. Excellent computer skills.
Problem Solving
Intuitively able to reason, analyze information and events, and apply judgment in order to solve problems of both a routine and complex nature.
Physical and Sensory Abilities
Occasionally required to travel to local and campus locations. Frequently required to sit for extended periods to perform deskwork or type on a keyboard. (If not administrative duties, such as labor, define general physical abilities. Regularly required to hear and speak in order to effectively communicate orally. Occasionally required to stand, walk, and climb stairs to move about the building. Handle materials, reach overhead, kneel or stoop in order to conduct business. Regularly lift 50-200 or fewer pounds, demonstrating techniques and lifts.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Work Environment
The working environment in which one will typically perform the essential functions of this position is a climate-controlled office setting. It is well lighted and the noise level is moderate. Outdoor training when weather permits.
Driving Requirements
Use of one’s personal vehicle (or LU vehicles) is required for travel in the performance of the essential functions of this position. Proof of a valid Virginia driver’s license, an acceptable DMV record, and liability insurance is required.
