The Senior Technical Writer will be responsible for producing clear, concise, and accurate documentation to support a mission-critical government program. This role requires the ability to translate complex technical information into accessible content for diverse audiences, including technical staff, program managers, and executive stakeholders. The Senior Technical Writer will collaborate with subject matter experts (SMEs), engineers, and analysts to ensure deliverables meet compliance standards, agency guidelines, and contractual requirements. The candidate will also establish and maintain documentation processes, style guides, and repositories, while mentoring junior staff in best practices for technical communication.
Key duties include:
- Writing, editing, and formatting technical documentation such as reports, manuals, white papers, training guides, procedures, and proposals.
- Translating complex technical material into user-friendly content tailored for both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Collaborating with SMEs and program staff to gather, verify, and integrate technical information.
- Ensuring all deliverables meet federal documentation standards and contractual requirements.
- Establishing and maintaining style guides, templates, and version control processes.
- Reviewing content for clarity, grammar, consistency, and compliance.
- Supporting proposal and contract deliverables as required.
- Providing guidance and mentorship to junior writers and analysts.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in English, Technical Writing, Communications, IT, or related field.
- At least 10 years of technical writing experience, preferably within federal contracting.
- Strong ability to write and edit technical materials for both technical and executive-level audiences.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat; experience with content management systems.
- Demonstrated ability to work in compliance-driven environments with strict documentation standards.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and the ability to meet deadlines.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Active Secret clearance or the ability to obtain one.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree or professional certification in Technical Writing, Communications, or related field.
- Experience supporting federal government programs.
- Familiarity with Agile project management methodologies.
- Experience with SharePoint, Confluence, or similar platforms.
