Position Summary
The Senior Technical Writer role is to work independently or with any combination of subject-matter experts, project managers, technical writers, and appropriate customer liaisons to plan, develop, write, and edit multiple communication mediums. This includes technical documentation, presentations, animations, web graphics, customer-facing videos, and internal communications.
In addition, the Senior Technical Writer builds effective and accurate learning content, in support of both the Technical Documentation and Training departments. Conduct interviews and demonstrations with various subject matter experts (SMEs) throughout the organization to gather required information or procedures. Utilize the defined department review process (Peer, SME, Customer, final version) before disseminating final communications to all internal and external audiences. Produce and maintain high quality, accurate documents/multimedia for customers that conforms to the Technical Documentation Style Guides. Perform in a leadership capacity when called upon to do so. Create new document/multimedia templates and edits existing templates for department-wide use.
This position will require interaction with business and technical teams across SG, as well as directly with customers, and thus will require some travel. It also requires interaction with project managers, product managers, software engineers, business analysts, trainers, and testing teams.
Scope
All System Lottery and other Lottery documentation needs by division as needed and determined by management. Will include international as needed; locations include but not limited to Canada, UK, Austria, New Zealand. Must be able to work on multiple projects at once.
Job Duties / Key Accountabilities
- Produce high-quality, on-time communications in support of new product submissions or existing products in the field or for regulatory agencies. Translating complex and technical information into an intuitive and clear format.
- Represent the Technical Documentation team in both internal and external project meetings and collaboration.
- Produce marketing communications material. This content may include announcements of new product features, print & online ads, press releases, product sheets, and company flyers/brochures.
- Create multimedia content for inclusion in communications. This content may include video footage, tutorials using Adobe Captivate software, Flash animations, etc.
- Respond to critical requests in a timely manner and collaborate with other project team members to determine optimal content solutions.
- Leverage basic understanding of software development lifecycle to support development of various technical documents that includes but is not limited to requirements, specifications, and end user documentation.
- Work closely with technical and non-technical team members
- Interact with relevant internal and external clients to collect and clarify technical information.
- Ability to create diagrams, drawings, and charts to explain product usage.
- Develop and Maintain Standard Operating Procedures
- Write clear, understandable documents that follow the writing standards and processes defined by the Technical Documentation department.
- Work with Manager, Technical Documentation to develop plans that address content, time schedules, and customer requirements.
- Work with the Manager, Technical Documentation to identify, define, and plan strategic initiatives including continual process improvement as requested.
- Interview the appropriate software engineers, support staff, and quality assurance personnel to understand functionality and to determine the documentation needs throughout the project lifecycle.
- Participate as project lead if requested and provide regular interaction with other project leads on work assignments and schedules.
- Promote the exchange of information between the Technical Documentation and Knowledge Management department and other departments and business units in SG.
- Assist SG’s Proposal department in answering Request for Proposals (RFP)
