Education/Certification:
- Required: Must possess a valid Texas Class C Driver's License and be insurable by the District.
- Preferred: High School graduate or equivalent
Special Knowledge/Skills Required:
- Good communicating and reasoning skills.
Experience Required:
- Knowledge of custodial work, methods, procedures, and related functions.
- Knowledge of minor repairs, electrical, plumbing, painting, carpentry and related areas.
PERSONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
- Demonstrate a willingness to work overtime if necessary in the event emergency situations arise.
- Ability to communicate with the Department/Campus Administrator and Food Service staff so the necessary support requirements for educational programs may be provided.
- Ability and willingness to work any shift.
- Ability to maintain emotional control under stress and work in challenging situations and relates positively to others
- Ability to work effectively with diverse groups of individuals
- Ability to work independently with little or no supervision
- Proactive, self-motivated, and self-directed
- Exhibits professionalism

- Demonstrates good judgment and knowledge of District policies and procedures with support the activities of the Department.
Function
Under the supervision of the Assistant Director of Support Services, custodian is responsible for maintaining the Gertrude B. Applebaum Food Service facility and other assigned areas in a clean, safe and orderly condition in accordance with the Districts cleanliness standards using prescribed procedures, and applicable guidelines.
Reports To:
Assistant Director for Support Services, Office of Food Services
Responsibilities:
- Perform cleaning duties
- Adhere to scheduled housekeeping duties as required
- Organize & maintain inventory of catering room
- Make minor repairs as required
- Check building to ensure that it is secure
- Ensure that all facility doors are secure before leaving
- Perform other duties as required for the daily operation of food service facility
- Assist in painting as needed
- Moving/folding tables and chairs as needed for event & meeting set ups
- Floor stripping and waxing
ADDITIONAL DUTIES:
Performs other job-related duties as assigned
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Lifting (heavy, 45 lbs. or over), carrying (heavy, 45 lbs., or over), stooping, walking, climbing (stairs, ladders, scaffold, ramps), balancing, crouching, kneeling, pulling, crawling, working in confined areas, pushing, reaching, repetitive hand motions, visual acuity, driving (car, truck, van).
- Outside temperature extremes, noises, vibrating, slippery surfaces, sunlight, works around moving objects, kneeling, chemical exposure (asbestos, fumes, vapors, gases, dusts, smoke, etc.). Inside humidity extremes, low or intense illumination, microwaves, uneven surfaces, works with hands in water, works around machinery with moving parts, works alone and/or with a team, prolonged or irregular hours, biological exposure (insects, mold, fungi, bacteria, animals, plants, etc.).
