POSITION OVERVIEW
JOB SUMMARY:
This is non-sworn law enforcement work operating telephone, radio, and computer systems in a public safety communications center involving computerized radio dispatching.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
A high school diploma and one year of appropriate experience. Appropriate college coursework or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience. Proficiency in typing ability to obtain certification within six months on the National Crime Information Center (NCIC)/Florida Crime Information Center (FCIC) computer system are required. Must have 232 hours of 911 dispatcher training and pass state issued certification exam within one year of employment or have previous dispatcher experience prior to April 2012 to substitute
experience for training hours and pass state issued certification exam within one year of employment.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
Must possess a high school diploma and one year of appropriate experience. College course work or vocation/technical training in the area of communications, criminal justice or related field may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience. Must be proficient in typing (keyboard experience) and possess or be able to obtain a Certification on the NCIC/FCIC Law Enforcement Computer system within 6 months of hire AND the Florida 9-1-1 Telecommunicator Certification within one year of hire. Knowledge of correct spelling, punctuation and grammar usage. Must possess ability to relate to the public, alphabetize, file and communicate verbally and in writing. Must possess ability to work in a confidential environment due to the sensitivity of information within the department. Must possess ability to follow written and oral instructions. Ability to speak clearly and interpret questions and answer those questions properly. Must possess the skills to use a computer and two way radio system. Ability to handle stressful situations.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience operating and utilizing the following equipment in order to provide critical information to law enforcement officers, emergency personnel or similar; police radios or similar equipment; telephone/radio base stations; telephone/Law Enforcement Computer Aided Dispatch System. Experience coordinating information with surrounding law enforcement agencies. Professional experience working with emergency situations. Experience monitoring alarm systems and notifying personnel upon activation. Experienced with the Florida Crime Information Center/National Crime Information Center teletype terminal. Completed FCIC Full Access Basic Certification. Evidence of strong written and oral communication skills. Experience working in a confidential environment. Experience working with and assisting the public. Acquired Florida Public Safety Telecommunicator certification. Key control systems.
