JOB SUMMARY:
The Assistant Professor of Nutrition and Human Health (Tenure Track) will provide leadership in developing, implementing, and managing a research program involving nutrition and wellness. The position will have a combination of research (75%) and Teaching (25%) components.
The Assistant Professor of Nutrition and Human Health (Tenure Track) will provide leadership in developing, implementing, and managing a research program involving nutrition and wellness. The successful candidate’s research expertise could include the areas: metabolic syndrome, diabetes, obesity; the role of minerals, vitamin D, and bone health; food, the impact of natural compounds, such as acetogenins, in the diet, and public nutrition. This position should support programing in the use of food and nutrition to promote health and manage disease. The position should focus on the areas above in limited resource and minority communities, a dietitians and/or nutritionists background.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Provide leadership in developing, implementing, and managing a research program involving nutrition and human health, with programing focused on areas such as metabolic syndrome, diabetes, obesity; the role of minerals, vitamin D, and bone health; food, the impact of natural compounds, such as acetogenins, in the diet, and public nutrition.
- Support programing in the use of food and nutrition to promote health and manage disease.
- Be strongly committed to teaching at the graduate level and should incorporate innovative, inquiry-based, dynamic, and active-learning methods into courses.
- Publish research results in refereed journals, books, and book chapters, abstracts and proceedings, and other publications and media outlets.
- Solicit funding and other resources from public and private agencies, such as NIH, USDA, AFRI, to enhance Extension and research programing.
- Collaborate with colleagues at 1890 institutions, other land grant and non-land grant institutions, USDA and state agencies, and other professionals to enhance the quality of research.
- Involve stakeholders in the development, execution, and dissemination of research projects and results.
- Participate actively in the appropriate professional societies via oral and poster presentations, serving on committees and holding office, and other society involvement.
- Mentor, provide oversight and lead graduate and undergraduate students in their research activities using cutting-edge techniques.
- Teach courses involving nutrition and cancer at the undergraduate and graduate level.
- Other job-related duties as assigned.
