Job Description

AECOM Hunt is looking to add a Senior Electrical Estimator to our team of professionals in Indianapolis, IN.

The Commercial Electrical Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for commercial electrical projects. This role analyzes drawings, specifications, and other documentation to determine material, labor, and equipment costs while collaborating with project managers, engineers, and vendors to support successful bids and project execution.

Job duties:

  • Develops proficiency in the use of the Company estimating systems and processes. 
  • Recognizes, understands and applies estimating terminology, measures, concepts and principles for compiling all types of estimates.
  • Recognizes how various processes/project actions and assumptions may impact the estimate and quantifies the impact.  
  • Assists in analyzing and using estimates to predict key project issues.
  • Prepares and/or coordinates preparation of full project estimates.  Provides complete conceptual and final estimating input.
  • Understands construction means, methods, and sequences-singe discipline.
  • Responsible for performing all aspects of estimating. 
  • Conducts work requiring independent evaluation, selection, adaptation and modification of standard estimating techniques, procedures, and criteria.
  • Develops wage rate build-ups.
  • Reads and interprets drawings, specifications, Requests-for-Proposals and contracts.
  • Develops detailed material take-offs for procurement of bulk materials.
  • Develops cash flow schedules and estimates.
  • Prepares scope and bid package breakdowns for subcontract and vendor quotes.
  • Prepares subcontract bid analysis for scope, cost, and price.
  • Understands Earned Value Management (EVMS) theory and application.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • BS Engineering/Construction Management or relevant curriculum and 6 years of commercial electrical estimation experience or AS and 8 years of relevant experience or HS/GED and 10 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • 6+ years' experience in commercial electrical estimating or related field
  • Strong understanding of commercial electrical systems and construction methods
  • Proficiency with estimating software (e.g. On Screen Takeoff, Bluebeam, etc.)
  • Ability to read and interpret construction documents and blueprints
  • Strong mathematical, analytical, and organizational skills
  • Excellent communication and time-management abilities
  • Experience estimating projects such as offices, healthcare, retail, industrial, or multi-story buildings
  • Knowledge of NEC and local electrical codes
  • Experience working for an electrical contractor
