About the role

Description

Position Summary:

The Biomedical Equipment Technician (BMET) is responsible for inspecting, maintaining, calibrating, and repairing medical and laboratory equipment to ensure optimal performance and compliance with safety and regulatory standards. The BMET works closely with clinical staff to minimize equipment downtime and supports the overall delivery of safe, effective patient care.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform preventive maintenance, testing, and calibration of medical equipment.
  • Troubleshoot, repair, and replace defective components on biomedical equipment.
  • Maintain accurate service records and documentation for all equipment activities.
  • Ensure all equipment meets manufacturer specifications, safety regulations, and compliance standards.
  • Collaborate with clinical staff to prioritize repairs and minimize operational disruptions.
  • Assist in the installation, relocation, and setup of new medical devices.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to end-users regarding proper equipment operation and care.
  • Maintain an inventory of parts, tools, and equipment supplies.

Requirements

  

  • Associate’s degree in Biomedical Equipment Technology
  • Strong technical knowledge of medical equipment repair and maintenance.
  • Familiarity with safety, regulatory, and compliance standards (FDA, OSHA, Joint Commission).
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Effective communication skills to interact with clinical staff and vendors.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • CBET (Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician) or equivalent certification.
  • Experience with a range of biomedical devices, including diagnostic imaging, therapeutic, and laboratory equipment.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and move equipment up to 50lbs.
  • Manual dexterity for handling small components and tools.
