Summary
Under direct supervision, cleans teeth, examines head, neck and oral areas for signs of oral disease. May educate clients on oral hygiene, take and develop X-rays, or apply fluoride or sealants.
Examples of duties
- Provides preliminary screening and notes potential problems to aid the supervisor dentist in diagnosis and treatment planning.
- Provides comprehensive, professional dental hygiene treatment/service as directed by dentist supervisor. Treatment includes x-rays, prophylaxis, scaling when indicated, Deep Scaling with Anesthesia, fluoride treatments and dental sealants.
- Accommodates scheduling of patients in order to fully utilize the clinical session as directed by dentist supervisor.
- Provides oral hygiene instructions to patients and parent/guardians as appropriate, and documents such in patient record.
- Follows clinical guidelines of record documentation and HIPPA regulations.
- Practices infection control according to clinical protocol and OSHA regulations.
- Breaks down and set up operatory between patients
- Under broad supervision, cleans teeth, examines head, neck and oral areas for signs of oral disease.
- May serve as a lead worker.
- Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.
Qualifications
- Associate's degree in dental hygiene from an accredited college or university AND current Georgia dental hygienist license AND Two years of related experience
