Position Summary
Concordia University seeks applicants for a full-time Traditional Undergraduate (UG) Department Chair faculty position in the School of Nursing at the CUAA Ann Arbor, MI campus. The Traditional Undergraduate (UG) Department Chair is a registered nurse whose responsibilities include coordination of the Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program (18 TCs) and teaching responsibilities (6 TCs) annually. This position requires a 12-month contract, with the administrative portion renewed annually.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
Department chairs are expected to comply with all rules and regulations or University faculty as outlined in the University Faculty Handbook and in the School of Nursing Handbook. In addition, they have the following responsibilities:
Responsibilities to the University
- Assists with recruitment of faculty by:
- Identifying current and future personnel needs
- Interviewing prospective adjunct and full time UG faculty members
- Making recommendations for hiring to the Dean
- Supervises the preparation and revision of Program syllabi and submits them as specified by university guidelines
- Evaluates library holdings and consults with faculty for suggested additions
- Interprets Traditional UG Nursing Program policies and procedures to other Departments, individuals and groups.
- Assists in recruitment and retention of students
- Other duties as assigned
Responsibilities to the SON
- Evaluates, revises, and administers the Traditional UG Program with the guidance of the Dean
- Evaluates and supports Traditional UG Nursing Program faculty
- Assumes responsibility for leading UG faculty in curriculum development, review, and revision
- Collaborates with the Dean and oversees the faculty for accreditation related activities
- Assists in implementing the SON Strategic Plan
- Collaborates with the Dean to submit required reports to regulatory bodies such as the Michigan State Board of Nursing, the American Association of Colleges of Nursing, and the Commission On Collegiate Nursing Education
- Develops and manages the annual Program budgets following administrative guidelines after consultation with the SON faculty and the Dean
- Collaborates with the Dean to manage resources allocated to the Traditional UG Program.
- Establishes, revises and implements Department policies
- Develops program course schedules
- Presides over meetings of the Traditional UG Nursing Program
- Collaborates with the Dean and other Directors/Chairpersons to determine faculty workloads
- Participates in orientation and mentoring of new faculty members
- Promotes professional development for faculty members
- Advises students as necessary
- Supervises contractual agreements with preceptors and affiliating agencies
- Supervises Traditional UG Program staff members
- Participates in service and scholarship within the University and the SON
- Teaches 6 TCs annually as part of faculty workload
Professional Activity
- Participates in professional organizations
- Represents the University and Traditional UG Program at conferences, meetings, conventions and in the community
- Maintains current knowledge of and preferably active practice within the area of teaching responsibility
