COMMUNITY HEALTH-DROWNING PREVENTION

 

INTERNAL AGENCY OPPORTUNITY

 

 

This position requires you to work on site at one of our facilities located throughout Broward County.

POSITION DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position is in the Community Health Division within the Drowning Prevention Program. The position Senior Health Educator is responsible for building relationships within Broward County’s Child Care Professional community and educating the youth of Broward County. The position will develop and deliver presentations to drowning prevention community partners. Presentations will be based on the audience, allotted amount of time given and materials needed. This position is also responsible to:

Provide outreach and education at community outreach events, including but not limited to bringing all resource materials to educate the public, and scheduling events to accommodate their schedule.

Facilitate Students Preventing Unintentional Drownings (S.P.U.D.) clubs at various schools and community outreach sites. The staff will be required to schedule meetings at the schools, educate the youth on becoming Water Smart Ambassadors, work with the students to create outreach events, and provide education and information to the clubs.

Provide logistical support to the Project Coordinator, attend community partner meetings, make copies, create documents, ordering supplies and schedule necessary appointments.

Create new initiatives pertaining to the current data and trend.

 Participate in conference calls, meetings, presentations, and trainings as required.

Responsible for coding Employee Activity Record (EARS).

Perform other related duties as needed.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  1. Willing to work before, during, and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency. This may include working in a special needs or Red Cross shelter, or performing other emergency duties including, but not limited to, responses to or threats involving any disaster or threat of disaster, man-made or natural.
  2. Current employee of Florida Department of Health. Applicants accepted only from Department of Health employees, (includes OPS, Career Service, SES or SMS employees). Applicants will not be accepted from outside of the department.
  3. Valid driver's license, free of major infractions and access to an automobile to be utilized for work purposes.
  4. Experience developing and delivering presentations.
  5. Experience providing education at community outreach events.
  6. Able to adapt to varied work environments, including performing physical tasks such as lifting materials and working outdoors as needed.
