Physical Education, Gym, Health Teacher

We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Physical Education and Health Teacher to promote lifelong fitness, healthy decision-making, and personal well-being among our middle school students. This educator will plan and deliver a comprehensive program that blends physical education with age-appropriate health instruction, aligned with national and state standards. The ideal candidate is passionate about student wellness, equity in athletics, and creating inclusive environments where all students feel motivated and capable of achieving personal health goals.

Our teachers will develop and implement creative learning experiences that provide students with voice and choice, while designing a structured and organized classroom environment. UCC School teachers are responsible for creating a positive, engaging, and inclusive educational atmosphere that fosters student growth and achievement, where students have the opportunity to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, social, physical and psychological growth. Teachers are responsible for organizing and implementing an instructional curriculum/program that will result in students achieving academic success in accordance with United Community Center’s policies, procedures and curriculum guidelines.  This role includes planning and delivering standards-aligned instruction, assessing student learning, managing classroom behavior, and building strong relationships with students, families, and colleagues. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Gym and Health Instruction:

• Design and implement a developmentally appropriate physical education curriculum for grades 6–8 that includes a variety of fitness, sport, team building, and movement activities.
• Teach middle school health units focusing on topics such as nutrition, mental health, physical development, healthy relationships, substance abuse prevention, and personal safety.
• Promote positive social interaction, teamwork, sportsmanship, and respect in both competitive and cooperative settings.
• Ensure all students, regardless of ability or experience, feel supported and encouraged to participate in physical activities.
• Monitor and assess student progress in physical fitness, skills development, and health knowledge.
• Maintain a safe, organized, and engaging learning environment in the gym, outdoor spaces, and classrooms.
• Collaborate with school leadership and grade-level teams to align physical and health education with school-wide initiatives and standards.
• Support school-wide wellness efforts, including extracurricular opportunities, field days, or family fitness nights.
• Uphold and model the values of respect, responsibility, and resilience in all student interactions.

Instruction, Planning, and Preparation:

• Develop standards-based, developmentally appropriate lesson plans in alignment with school curriculum and instructional expectations.
• Design coherent instruction that includes differentiated strategies and scaffolds for diverse learners.
• Set clear instructional outcomes aligned to curriculum and grade-level expectations.
• Demonstrate deep knowledge of content and pedagogy, and expertise in assigned subject area/grade level.
