As an integral member of the Bullis School community, we are seeking an Assistant Director of Safety and Security who will be responsible for collaborating with the Director of Safety and Security in the development, implementation, and monitoring of the School’s safety and security program, which includes the safety and protection of students, employees, on-campus residents, and visitors. The Assistant Director of Safety and Security is expected to be on campus from 7:30 am through 5:00 pm on school days with flexibility to be available at other times as needed.
Duties & Qualifications
Essential Functions
Leadership and Oversight
Assist With:
- Developing and overseeing the implementation of the School’s strategic vision for campus safety and security, including establishing and implementing behavioral threat assessment protocols; ensuring that all points of entry are secured; coordinating with Montgomery County community resources including police and emergency management; working collaboratively with the School’s IT Department to ensure proper testing and maintenance of security equipment and software; working collaboratively with the School’s Communications Department to ensure a safety and security-conscious online presence, as well as proper monitoring of online media; and overseeing and, where needed, improving access control and camera systems, among other security measures.
In the Absence of The Director of Security:
- Perform supervisory responsibilities, including, but not limited to, planning, assigning, and directing work assignments, ensuring appropriate security coverage of campus during and outside of school hours.
- Ensure that all Security Department members receive appropriate ongoing training.
- Manage the Safety and Security Department’s budget and assets.
Emergency Preparedness
Assist With:
- Designing, updating, and managing the school’s emergency response and crisis management plans.
- Planning and executing regular drills and training for faculty, staff, and students, including fire, lockdown, and evacuation exercises.
- Developing and maintaining close working relationships with local law enforcement and emergency responders. Collaborate with local law enforcement, fire, and emergency medical services to ensure coordinated responses to emergencies.
Campus Security Operations
Assist With:
- Overseeing day-to-day operations of the Safety and Security Department and leading its members with vision, purpose, and drive.
- Implementing and enforcing procedures for campus visitors during school hours, including front gate procedures and building access procedures to prevent trespassers on campus.
- Ensuring smooth and efficient daily drop-off and pick-up procedures, including managing and coordinating the traffic control officer’s schedule to ensure sufficient traffic coverage on main public roads during drop-off and pick-up.
