We design and operate scalable pipelines for onboarding massive datasets from customers and partners, while developing and optimizing geospatial processing services that transform raw map inputs into high-quality, production-ready products. Our work spans innovation in AI, big data, and algorithmic evolution to advance how maps are processed, validated, and enriched, supporting both large-scale customer programs with premium automotive brands and multi-industry partners, as well as internal transformation initiatives.</p> <p> </p> <p><strong>Responsibilities:</strong></p> <p>HERE Technologies is looking for an experienced <strong>Senior Software Engineering Manager</strong> to join our highly motivated <strong>Mapmaking team</strong> in <strong>Schwalbach, Germany</strong>. The Mapmaking team builds and operates core technologies and services for onboarding, processing, and quality assuring digital map data. You will lead cross-functional, globally distributed teams responsible for developing high-scale map processing services, evolving geospatial algorithms, and managing AWS-based infrastructure. This role combines technical leadership, people management, and strategic influence in the fields of cloud, big data, and AI-driven geospatial processing.</p> <p> </p> <ul> <li>As a technical leader and an effective people manager, you can hold your own in a technical discussion, be a subject matter expert, and influence strategic product and technical decisions across organizations. </li> <li>You understand the primary importance of hiring top talent, coaching, and developing people to bring out their best and to foster an engaged, collaborative, and respectful team culture.</li> <li>You will collaborate with internal and external stakeholders like Product, Program, Sales, and the Architecture function to define technical product and business solution requirements. </li> <li>You will collaborate and contribute on technical architectural design and review. </li> <li>Enable your globally distributed teams to execute high-velocity software development<strong>, </strong>support their needs, and resolve barriers inhibiting their progress </li> <li>Communicate with senior leadership regarding progress against plans, issues, and needs. </li> <li>Drive the team’s software development process and be accountable for conformance to software quality standards.  </li> <li>Work collaboratively with other engineering teams to ensure cross-functional goals are met on schedule. </li> <li>Lead the team to follow Agile standards in engineering best practices</li> <li>Engage in the Industry on advancements in Geo-spatial data processing, FOSS, and related market trends in the digital mapping domain.</li> </ul> <p> </p> <p><strong>Tech Stack:</strong> Java, Scala, Python, SQL, AWS, Docker, Kubernetes, GitLab, Spark, Kafka, and GeoJSON.</p> <h2>Who are you?</h2> <ul> <li><p>Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Geo-Informatics, or a related field.</p></li> <li><p>8+ years of proven technical leadership and people management experience, including managing globally distributed teams.</p></li> <li><p>7+ years of backend and/or services application development experience.</p></li> <li><p>Strong knowledge of software architecture, design, and code review.</p></li> <li><p>Proven experience with any of the following SW dev languages like <strong>Java, Scala, Python, SQL </strong></p></li> <li><p>Expertise with <strong>DBMS</strong>, preferably <strong>PostgreSQL or Oracle.</strong></p></li> <li><p>Experience building high-throughput, low-latency, and highly reliable systems at scale.</p></li> <li><p>Familiarity with <strong>HTTP, REST, JSON, and microservices architectures</strong>.</p></li> <li><p>Hands-on experience with <strong>AWS, GCP, or Azure cloud environments</strong>.</p></li> <li><p>Experience with <strong>Docker, Kubernetes</strong>, and container orchestration.</p></li> <li><p>Strong background in <strong>DevOps practices</strong> and <strong>CI/CD</strong>, with tools such as <strong>JIRA, Git, and GitLab.</strong></p></li> <li><strong>E</strong>xperience with high availability <strong>NoSQL</strong> databases, <strong>Big Data</strong> processing Frameworks,<strong> Spark, Flink, and Kafka.</strong></li> <li><p>Excellent communication skills in <strong>English</strong>, both written and spoken.</p></li> </ul> <h3>Nice-to-Have Skills</h3> <ul> <li><p>Knowledge of <strong>geospatial data handling</strong>, OS libraries, frameworks, and <strong>GeoJSON</strong>.</p></li> <li>Engagement in <strong>industry forums or open-source geospatial communities</strong>.</li> </ul> <p><strong>What Do We Offer?</strong></p> <ul> <li>A great work-life balance</li> <li>30 paid vacation days</li> <li>Hybrid model of work (2 days o
