About the role
Project Kuiper is an initiative to launch a constellation of Low Earth Orbit satellites that will provide low-latency, high-speed broadband connectivity to unserved and underserved communities around the world.
The team
Project Kuiper's Software Defined Networking (SDN) team will design, implement and operate the network virtualization stack and SDN control plane signalling. Our scope spans over beam planning, routing and forwarding through our SDN Controller, Agents, Apps, as well as Capacity Management that provides a high throughput telecom service comprised of Low Earth Orbit satellites, customer terminals, gateways, Cloud services and terrestrial network infrastructure that connects into public and private networks.
The role
We are looking for a dynamic leader and owner to build the core networking control plane services for an advanced global telecom service via both space and terrestrial networks. As the manager of this team, you will lead a software engineering team to deliver high quality, secure and fault tolerant software used in Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites, ground Gateways, and Consumer/Enterprise class Customer Terminals. You will define the long-term vision for the team and its products as well as defining the team structure needed to achieve it. The candidate must have expertise with modern development practices and languages and will have demonstrated the capability to deliver best-in-class software systems that solve some of today's hardest problems.
The position is in Redmond.

- Hire, support and develop a team of exceptional software developers for the SDN Agent team
- Define the multi-year vision and strategy for the team
- Lead the software engineering team to deliver a cloud-based and embedded software with a distributed network management plane to create a scalable network that is highly available across challenging mobile, space and terrestrial environments.
- Manage resource allocation to meet our business goals
- Manage the software lifecycle of your deliverables from concept to operations

Basic Qualifications
- 3+ years of engineering team management experience
- 7+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience
- 3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience
- Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
- Experience partnering with product or program management teams
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
- Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers
