The Water Department's Infrastructure Services Division, Facility Section is seeking a qualified professional to serve as Engineering Manager and lead capital delivery teams in the management and execution of infrastructure projects including water and wastewater facility. This position will report to the Senior Capital Projects Officer for the Capital Project Delivery Section. The successful candidate is responsible to lead, manage and administer programs for Capital Project Delivery. The selected candidate must have a thorough understanding and knowledge of water and wastewater principles and practices as it relates to water and waste water facility infrastructure.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in civil engineering or related field
  • Five (5) years of increasingly responsible professional civil engineering experience, Including two years of administrative and supervisory responsibility
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Texas. (If licensed in another state, continued employment will be contingent upon obtaining registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Texas within six months of employment)
  • A valid Driver's License

The Engineering Manager – Transportation job responsibilities include:

  • Supervises staff, which includes prioritizing and assigning work; conducting performance evaluations; ensuring staff is trained; ensuring employees follow policies and procedures; maintaining a healthy and safe working environment; and, making hiring, termination, and disciplinary decisions or recommendations
  • Monitors and evaluates the quality, responsiveness, efficiency and effectiveness of engineering and construction project management, delivery methods and procedures; and works with employees on the continuous improvement of engineering and construction project management services
  • Provides professional engineering expertise in the design and construction of major civil engineering projects. Reviews, evaluates and approves a variety of engineering and construction documents, including drawings, plans, designs, contract documents, technical specification, cost estimates, environmental documents and reports
  • Identifies and plans required capital improvement projects for system expansion; develops and submits work scopes for proposed projects; and designs the necessary modifications and/or new construction of public works streets, water, and related projects within City, County, State and Federal guidelines
