Occupational Summary
The Senior Director, Alumni Industry and Professional Engagement, reporting to the Assistant Vice President and joining the Alumni and Students Connections (ASC) team, will lead Duke Alumni Engagement and Development's (AED) initiatives to strengthen connections between Duke University and alumni working across various industry sectors. The Senior Director will develop a volunteer structure for three new industry groups (Tech, Healthcare, and Climate/Sustainability), in addition to overseeing the existing Duke Entertainment Media and Arts Network (DEMAN). This role will recruit, manage, support, and motivate Duke alumni volunteers for these groups, collaborating closely with colleagues across Alumni Engagement and Development and other Duke units in planning and promoting engagement opportunities to ensure seamless connections between campus and alumni in the workforce. The Senior Director will supervise the Program Coordinator, DEMAN, and the Program Coordinator, Alumni Careers and Mentoring.
Work Performed
Develop and Manage Industry Groups
- Develop a volunteer structure for three new industry groups and recruit, manage, and harness the energy of volunteers and ambassadors to volunteers and ambassadors to activate the global alumni network and build connections among alumni across industry sectors.
- Drive volunteer engagement across key industries that align with Duke’s strategic priorities, ensuring that industry group activity supports alumni engagement with existing Duke programming.
- Utilize technology and digital engagement tools, platforms, and strategies to promote Duke content to industry group members, as well as foster connection and engagement among these alumni
- Adopt and utilize technology and digital engagement tools, platforms and strategies, including LinkedIn and AED resources, to promote Duke content to group members and foster industry connections and engagement among them.
- Build strong relationships with and engage Duke alumni, parents, and friends who are leaders in the Tech, Healthcare, and Climate/Sustainability industries.
- Support and partner with members of the Alumni and Student Connections team to provide pathways for students and industry-focused student organizations to connect with alumni.
- Support and partner with the AVP to develop and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders and form partnerships. Foster teamwork, build coalitions, and drive common strategies with stakeholders within a decentralized organization and campus community.
- Support and partner with the AVP to develop strong identities for each of these groups and their members.
- Oversee DEMAN and the Duke Entertainment Media and Arts Network (DEMAN).
- Represent Duke University and Alumni Engagement and Development at various functions and events, including some evening and weekend programs. This position may require travel up to six times a year.
- Ensure effective communication and coordination of activities with program participants, faculty, administrators, alumni, and students.
Administrative and Strategic Support
- Provides operational leadership in the implementation of the day-to-day activities associated with the work of the Alumni and Student Connections team.
- Represents the team and AED on committees and taskforces, incidental to the work described herein. This may include, but would not be limited to, working with various committees of the Duke Alumni Board of Directors; contribute to and provide leadership for AED cross-functional efforts focused on careers and mentoring.
